Milk crates the new 'weapon of choice' for Australia

Australia’s social media scene is awash with jokes and comments about milk crates. These ubiquitous items have a myriad uses here and it seems most households have at least one or two. Whenever we are engaged in any do-it-yourself stuff, there will be a milk crate or two acting as either temporary seats or holding tools or other bits and pieces. A few days ago, some quick-thinking people used a milk crate and a chair to apprehend a man who had fatally stabbed a woman and injured another. Since then the jokes and cartoons have been flowing thick and fast like people saying it is now Australia’s ‘weapon of choice’. I like the one of the two policemen, each with a milk crate hanging off their belt and the caption ‘Make Australia Crate Again’. Does that ring any bells? In the photo, you can see Vince making use of a crate while Hercules checks that he is doing the job properly.

@judyev Our weapon of choice has traditionally been not milk crates but milk bottles, filled with petrol and with a lit rag hanging out of it to that when it’s thrown the lit petrol goes everywhere. Milk crates would be much more versatile - you can’t sit on a bottle to paint a fence - I’m told.

@JudyEv I used to work at the desk I. The emergency room in hospital - I’ve seen some people getting into a pickle with improper use of bottles. One man got ‘himself’ in a milk bottle, so I’ll be exercising great care.

@xFiacre I have heard of that before. The mind boggles - and I guess other body parts would be boggling too.

You could always try sitting on a bottle to paint a fence - but sit on the big end. At least that would be my advice.

Yes. Apparently one guy was very quick to tackle the man with a chair then other weighed in with the milk crate.

We have a few here too. I have some of them in the chicken coops for nest boxes. I like your slogan better than the one here

We have a couple of milk crates floating around the house (actually fake ones that have never seen any actual milk) but no one around here has ever thought of using one as a weapon. You Aussies are very inventive.

He is a neutered ram so he is a wether. He was a pet but as an entire ram he got a bit cheeky as the kids would tease him so they had him neutered. We would never tease him or allow him to be teased and he had the most beautiful nature. He was very kind and gentle.

@rebelann Some words have multiple meanings and sometimes we're only familiar with one or two of them.

@JudyEv It is a little cooler in the morning but gets nicer on. I went out and wore a jacket but do not need it now so when I go out again. Maybe fall type weather. I am going day by day with the weather because usually it stays nice till November or December. No rain yet. Winter is when we get the rain but sometimes we get it in October and then again maybe November or December.

Funny how jokes get started. I will now be looking out for any Aussies wielding any of these very dangerous weapons. Perhaps I need to lobby for sensible milk crate control laws.

And if we're working away from the workshop, we'd do the same to make a makeshift workbench.
