Cancelling plans at the last moment

My granddaughter has been very excited because her friend invited her for a day out at a trampoline park. The friend's mum spoke to her, told her what time to be at her house and it all seemed to be going ahead well.
Last night, the night before the day out, her friend text her and told her it was all off. No reason was given and my granddaughter is understandably very disappointed. I should have known this might happen because it isn't the first time this person has let her down, it's actually the third time. I did tell her not to raise her hopes too much.
Now I know sometimes it is unavoidable that plans have to be cancelled for one reason or another but it does seem that this particular friend's mother does this often. Do you know anyone that cancels plans at the last moment on a regular basis?

She has to learn that some people are not reliable. She found another friend to hang out with so she was fine.

@Mavic123456 Yes but I think it was more to do with the parent than the child. She's still friendly with her.

Even I have a tough time in handling change of plans so I can understand her sadness.

Yes I'm trying to think of something else for her to do. I'll maybe take her swimming.

People have done this to me on occasion. Sometimes it can't be helped but it's not nice to be let down at such short notice, especially when this sounds like something your granddaughter was really looking forward to.

@sprite1950 That's good. I'm glad she could find other fun things to do. I find things difficult because I don't have many friends so if someone lets me down, I just don't know what to do with myself

@pumpkinjam I don't need a lot of friends really. I do enjoy my own company but I have people I can call on if I need to. Children seem to strike up friendships wherever they go but it's different for adults.

Yes she was but since that day she has camped out in a friend's garden, been swimming most days and found other things to do. She doesn't dwell on disappointment which is a good thing.

@LadyDuck she's fine now and went into town with another friend. Kids soon forget their disappointments.

@sprite1950 This is true and it is a good thing, at least her day is not spoiled.

It is as an adult but my granddaughter was really looking forward to it so she is disappointed, I am more annoyed than she is!

@Janet357 I think some people get enthusiasic about going somewhere when it is weeks ahead buty as the time draws near they chance their mind. I did tell her not to get her hopes up but at 12 you tend to trust people more.

@sprite1950 understand your feeling. maybe, next time, dont believe anymore what she says. it's almost synonymous to lying.

It can really disappoint kids .. heck it does me when it has happened in the past. We basically make plans with family now and that works almost 100% of the time. We have a very large family so it is a good time. When we all meet up there is normally others that show up too so she gets to meet others and "hang".

That's good. I come from a very small family with no other children of her age but she does have quite a lot of friends. It's just disappointing when she's let down although it was more to do with the parent than than her friend. She promised to take them somewhere and then changed her mind.

She's alright now and they went swimming together today. I just have to tell her not to build her hopes up because she could be disappointed.

I think some people make arrangements and feel like it's a good idea at the time and then change their mind as the event approaches.
