Held captive by a joey

We were away for six weeks, home for a couple of weeks then away again for a fortnight. The kangaroos that come and go on our property have a peaceful time when we’re away. There are several who enjoy the few plants that we have in the garden. One is a native groundcover and one doe in particular can often be found munching on it.
I was late going into the kitchen this morning to get my coffee and spotted a yearling joey soaking up the sun just a short way outside the kitchen window. When it heard me, it propped itself up to check out the noise. However, it didn’t run away.
The doe and joey stayed around for ages and virtually held us prisoner in the house as we didn’t want to go out and scare them. We’ve been here sixteen years and while we’re used to the kangaroos, we are still enthralled by them.

They have known it already, they are friendly to you, so maybe instead of running, the joey just stare at you.

I would love to be a prisoner for such adorable ones. . Here I am made captive by monkeys on few days. They came in a big troop and I close all doors and windows. I don't step out till they all are gone.

@arunima25 I guess they steal any fruit and vegetables that you might be growing. Is that right?

@JudyEv Oh! They surely damage a lot in my garden each time they visit. Thanks to rain they have not visited in a month or more.

He is such a little cutie.
I wouldn't want to scare him nor any others off either.
You being gone for so long, I am sure that they are waiting for you to leave 'their' home and they might be wondering why you didn't look startled when they saw you.

I'm surprised that in the 16 years you have been living there, you haven't adopted a pet kangaroo yet. Have any of them been successfully domesticated as pets? Or, in the 16 years you've been there, has there been any kangaroos that have been exceptionally friendly to you and not afraid to come up to you?

@JudyEv It’s probably better for them in the long run to maintain their natural fear of humans.

@moffittjc I think so. Some farmers shoot one occasionally for their dogs or whatever so best they retain their natural timidity.

@JohnRoberts I've no idea. It's the 'official' name for baby marsupials. Baby monotremes (platypus and echnidna) are called 'puggles'. Sounds very official, doesn't it? NOT!

How cute! I like when I see fawns. I saw one not long ago, which surprised me. They are usually born in the spring.

I think I would be in thrall as well--they are so cute--I always think of them as shy--but I am not sure that is true

@divalounger Even ours that come up round the house will take off at the drop of a hat if something spooks them.
