How to memorize long books?

I find it a daunting task to memorize bulky books. But, I have no option as committing books to memory is essential for scoring laudable marks in exams. If you know a sound technique to learn books by heart, kindly divulge it here.

i usually write down what i think is important and remember that.

Just read the book many times until you are thorough with it.
