What did you have for lunch today? A culinary fail for The Horse.

If you've ever been to Subway, you may know that they offer a broccoli and cheese soup that's really quite good. I get it with my sandwich one in every four times I go there. I wanted to try something new at home, so I bought a can of broccoli and cheese soup by Progresso (at Safeway), hoping it would be similar to what I've enjoyed at Subway. To cut to the chase, it was pretty bad. It was overly "sweet," as many American canned food are, and the broccoli was mushy and not very tasty. I actually had this the other day for lunch, and will avoid it in the future. Even a dollop of sour cream didn't help. Did you have a decent lunch today?

Sounds good What will you have on the side? I'm eating cold steak and rice right now. Perfectly satisfying.

@Janet357 I'm thinking right now...what would I most want on the side with buttered shrimps...chips (French fries)? Salad with blue cheese dressing? I'm not sure.

I never have tried that soup from Subway, only the chicken noodle, which they hardly ever have. I had a hot dog for lunch, I was happy with that.

@TheHorse I would say it is better than Campbell chicken noodle, try it one time. Next tie I will try the broccoli and cheese. When I asked about it last time, the worker told me the soups sell out early, the broccoli and cheese is the favorite.

@CookieMonster46 It really is quite good. Maybe I'll try the chicken noodle some time. But when I want chicken soup, I generally go for Thai Tom Kha Gai. It rocks.

Hot dogs are good. Is the chicken noodle good? I DO recommend the broccoli and cheese.

Very light lunch today, because I want to make some nice appetizers for dinner. We had cottage cheese with fresh sliced tomatoes and a peach.

@LadyDuck I would probably enjoy them. Horse Jr. would not. He and I went to a birthday party for a neighbor boy who turned five. His parents are Indian, and I knew there'd be delicious Indian food after the pizza they served for the (mostly Indian) kids. I gave him one bite of my chicken curry and he said "it's too hot!" I was in gustatory heaven.

I enjoy Mexican food. I like it spicy. The Mexican food in CA tends to be quite good. I won't have it again in Georgia.

@andriaperry I was spooked by all of those Anglo-Americans at the place we went to in Georgia. The food was...OK...I'd call it bland.

@TheHorse I made my own jalapeno red hot sauce tonight. There is a place in Talledega, Al. in the square that is run by Mexicans and the food is awesome!

@TheHorse it was really good. It was the first one I had in years. I was trying to decide what to have for lunch and I spotted the special at the take out when i was walking by and I was like that's it.

I had a BLT. It is pretty simple to make Brocoli Cheese Soup at home. There are easy recipes online. I would try it, you can make it in the crockpot. I have done so and it turns out well.

I had a sausage a the farmers market. A very nice hot dog, with lamb, wild garlic and some other herbs. I'm not sure I'd trust a soup that claims to be a broccoli and cheese soup but needs to add "made with real cheese". What other ways can you make a broccoli and cheese soup?

Believe it or not, I was lazy to make myself some food today so I have an olive loaf and American cheese sandwich. I was very fond of olive loaf when I was little but now it tastes much too salty for me so I finished what I had and no more for me,

@TheHorse Do you know it as 'head cheese'? Here, it is pieces of (usually) different meats set in a clear jelly then sliced.

I have been eating off the same pot of stew all week. I turned today's into curry. It was quite nice, and next week's stew meat is sitting in the Shuttle Chef getting tender so I can pull it apart tomorrow and throw in some veggies.

I refuse to eat canned soups. They are all gross. Today's lunch was ground beef cooked with spinach, diced tomatoes, and seasonings and a baked sweet potato. Not amazing but at least food that I could get down. My appetite has been awful.

Why has your appetite been awful? Your lunch sounds good. I got called in to work early, so I've only grazed today. But I have some leftover steak and rice beckoning to me from my refrigerator.

@NJChicaa That's not a good place to be. Is there a Horse Surrogate there who can help you navigate these difficult waters? Depression is one of Kubler-Ross's stages of grieving (are you familiar with her work?). Ive been there. Appetite zero. Couldn't watch love scenes on TV. But you have to take care of your body and remind yourself "This too shall pass."

I didn't do lunch today, I'm still recovering from Disneyland. If you added the wood stain to the soup I can understand the fail. I avoid the Progresso company soups, I haven't had any of them that are any good. If I do get canned soup I end up doctoring it for my own tastes. As for broccoli and cheese soup I would make mine from scratch which would be useless as Bill doesn't care for broccoli and I would have to eat it all myself. I also love clam chowder and had some at Disneyland...it was pretty good for a change it had plenty of clams. Tomorrow when we go to town we will probably stop for either Subway or Blaze Pizza. Sunday we'll have a better lunch after we go to the grocery store...cream of tomato soup sounds kinda good for a change.

I ate the rest of the burrito filling I made last night. I don't particularly like Progressive soups. They use quality ingredients, but for some reason, they just don't have enough flavor. Plus, you got the "light" version which to me taste watered down. Creamy soups just aren't as creamy as they should be. Since you live in the States, you should try Panera Bread's broccoli cheese soup that is packaged for sale in supermarkets. You might look online to see which stores carry it so you don't waste gas.

It was a fasting day for me today. We have a full nine days of fasting for many. But I am keeping only on two days. We have fruits, and boiled Potatoes, curd and things made of Buckwheat flour(Kuttu in Hindi).

I admit that I never fast, though I sometimes light a candle for no particular reason (or to celebrate a Holiday). Yesterday I went to a birthday party for a boy turning five. His parents are Indian, and they had yummy Indian food for the grownups after the pizza was served for the kids. The Indian food was too "spicy" for Horse Jr.
