Anyone else have Meniere's disease as I do?
It began when I was 18. The dizziness that is. But before that, from a young age, my ears felt clogged all the time and other times water would randomly pour out of one while I was lying in bed.
About 10 years ago, I finally got to a real bonafide ENT who gave me a bunch of tests. While he never used the term "Meniere's", he did tell me it was progressive and that there was no cure. They sent me to physical therapy which only made things worse before helping a bit. The idea is to get my eyes, ears and brain to cooperate with each other as they're supposed to. They did tell me that my right ear is shaped differently inside from my left.
All I know is that at this point, at 55 years of age, I have 24/7 dizziness, brain fog, clogged ears, and uneven gait. Much of the time I have pain in my ears and blurred vision and sometimes nausea and fatigue.
I barely know what it is like to feel otherwise.
Just call me a dizzy blonde...

I've never heard that disease before. Can't you have it cured?

No cure, but mine is not as bad as others. I had a friend who needed to take medication first thing in the morning from her bed. If she did not do this, she would have horrible nausea and dizziness and be in bed all day. I am extremely grateful that I am not that bad!

@yanzalong I am very dizzy daily but somehow I manage. It can get depressing as it is exhausting and causes brain fog, but I learn not to push myself and to allow myself to rest as much as I need to - especially when under stress.

When I say Meniere's to people, many of them reply "Vertigo"? But it's so much more than just vertigo. :-)

Naw, I will swim. I don't believe the water in my ears is related at all to outsider influences such as swimming or showering, It is a physiological thing. I have used a cane at times. Often the cane is to let me know where the ground is more so than for balance. Though I can see fine, I cannot always sense correctly if that makes any sense. I find myself bumping into a wall before I knew I was headed towards it etc.

I know someone with that condition. Isn't there a surgical procedure that can restore balance to the inner ear?

Not that I know of. I have been on lists of people with Meniere's and they say they have tried various things (meds) and that nothing completely works. As long as people understand my limitations, I amm fine with it. I have had family members challenge me on it in the past but I think they are finally getting it now.

Yes, have this, three of the ladies I went to high school with have it also. We didn’t have it in high school but much later in life.
I have very little trouble from it. On occasion I have a little ear trouble, from it but not much.
