Is it a shame of being a lesbian or a gay?

Just for discussion. If your friend told you that he/she's Les/gay, what would you do? Would you still be his/her friend just like before? Would you feel shameful for having a friend like this? Would you think that your friend is getting some disease? (disease here means being a gay/lesbian is like getting a disease) Feel free to talk about it.

Why should I mind about this? Every body in this World does have a freedom of his/her own! In some countries are legally recognizing these types of relationships. It is very easy to react and pass a comment on any thing which may not look normal to us, but if get into the depth of the subject then we realize how complicated is the matter and why a person is acting so!

I am soooooo happy to hear that! It's really hard for many people to come out of the closet because of the unforgiving place.

There is absolutely no reason to be ashamed if you are gay or lesbian. And why would I worry about them getting a disease any more than I would worry about heterosexual friends?

It's not a disease, and would remain friends. I have a few friends like that and love them dearly.

I don't feel it to be a shame. Being a gay Or lesbian is as causal as being straight. One of my friend is bisexual and am casual about it. It's about having different preferences and I believe whatever one preference one has others should respect that.

How I wish I could have friends like yours. I have the same idea with you. It's just a choice of life. Nothing strange or peculiar. But where I live is an unforgiving place. Many gays and lesbians have to get married. What a shame!

@Evaaaaaa That's the stigma which still exists. In India too acceptance is less.

As long as a person is happy then it should not matter who they love. It is their business and their choice. I have many family and friends who are gay. I don't see it any different then any other relationship.

@Evaaaaaa I am sorry to hear that. It is sad when people have to hide who they really are.

It's really great to have a friend like you. Some of my friends they just don't accept having a gay friend. They think having a gay friend makes them feel sick ... That's why I always keep it a secret. This makes me feel bad...

I don’t mind having friends who are lesbians/gays. In fact, I have a lot of friends from the lgbt community and I love them

I would do what I can to help him/her out of the closet or make it as easy as possible. My daughter is bisexual and my neice was trans gender. I am not homophobic and have a few friends who are gay or bi.

I think you must be very kind and open minded. It's great to have a friend like you. If my mom had a lesbian daughter she would kill me.

I developed friendships with a fun group and learned through the grapevine when someone came out of the closet. It was okay with me to each their own and all that but one thing I did find a little disturbing was all the attention it brought?

I get it. It's OK to have gay friends. But people always pay much attention to the coming out of the closet thing..

@Evaaaaaa Surprise, surprise right! After a while people stopped talking about it and moved on to a new topic. Makes me wonder just how much people like the attention both for the person coming out and those giving their opinions. Do you like being open about some parts of your life or prefer to keep it private?

I would support and defend if necessary my friends choice.. No matter what. Period. I understand the question, and would respectfully like to add... This pretty much goes for anyone else that has different preferences as well. M
