I wrote recently about painting the roof of a small country church in Western Australia. You can catch up here: https://www.mylot.com/post/3312580/wandering-back-to-wandering
A few months after that time, we were approached to do another roof in the same parish but in a slightly bigger town. The plan was that Vince would be doing the work on the roof and I’d organise the boys to paint the woodwork round the doors and windows.
We hadn’t bargained on the two factions within the church community who hadn’t agreed yet on the colours so before starting, there was a bit of argy-bargy about the colours we'd been told to use. So that left a bit of a sour taste in our mouths, not that any of it was our concern really.
We understand that, after all our hard work, the woodwork was repainted one early morning by those who didn’t like the new colour. I wonder what God thought of his parishioners at that point.
There was one funny part to the whole exercise. The roof was tiled so it only needed power-washing. However, the steeple needed to be painted and this involved extending the cherry picker to its maximum length. What’s more, the large rector, who had been an engineer in a previous life, was very keen to be involved and insisted on going up in the cherry-picker with Vince. The weight of the two of them caused the bucket to ‘bounce’ ever so slightly, and I could see Vince turning a pale shade of green. Not being afraid of heights, I found it a bit funny.
The photo is of another small country church which has found a new life as a reception centre. We organised a concert there for the new owner and he has since done a lot more work on it.

What a cute little church in your photo! I think that would make a nice little family home in another life!

@moffittjc Hers certainly did. One in our nearby town nows sells all things French. At least it's being used. And the Baptist Church in Donnybrook is now the Council Chambers so it will be looked after too.

I like your stories of painting the roofs of churches in Western Australia.

The scenery and church is beautiful, it's like something straight out of a post card.

From what I gather it was done free, so why so picky about the color, it's free and done by others, you'd think they'd be happy it was all free. Not easy to paint, either.

Ahh, I see. But it's so nice and kind of you to volunteer to paint the church!

It was an iron roof and after some years the paint fades. The new Colorbond rooves stay looking good for longer. If you look at the photo, you can see that part of the roof on the right has been painted and that on the left is faded.

A lovely photo I like little churches. Glad you were able to get the work done, I am afraid of heights so I would be of no use at all.

Church factions can divide a church and cause so much friction. It's deplorable how some 'Christian's' act. You'd never know they were Christians with how they act.
I can imagine Vince turning green with the bounce of the cherry picker. I would too.
That's a cute little country church. I'm glad it has a new use.

It's good Vince can still climb the roof. Is he not afraid of heights?

He was in the cherry picker but no, he doesn't really like heights.

Would not want to be in the middle of that argument. Whenever you have a group of people making a choice there probably has to be a vote! Not everyone is going to be happy.

The colour had nothing to do with us. I should have been sorted out before we got there.
