How You Can Find Out If People Read Your Posts Properly Before Liking And Commenting On Them

My last post (the one before this) deals with the topic of writing book reviews. It is dripping with irony. The comments I’ve got up to now show me that I should refrain from irony when posting on myLot. Only very few members get it and enjoy it.
I love irony. Yet, I had to learn not to use it in my profession as a teacher as children can’t understand it. The ability to understand it comes with maturity. I was fortunate in so far as I had pupils from the age of 10 up to 18/19 years old. Some precocious youngsters got and enjoyed ironic remarks rather early, some of the older ones never got it.
But then I’m also a victim of an ethnic peculiarity. The people in the south of Germany where I live now have a completely different sense of humour from the people in the East and North where I grew up. I say something which is not even remotely funny and they laugh their socks off. I emit a top notch, brilliant, ironic remark and they ask me seriously what I mean.
Well, whatever. Back to my last myLot post. Instead of congratulating me on my post ridiculing the writing of crap book reviews (Yes, I used the word and it passed the indecency detector, hooray! How could they overlook it? The best proof that they haven't read the post properly) several members thanked me for my good pieces of advice!
I can’t believe it! They have very obviously not read my whole post attentively and shot themselves in the foot. I’ll refrain from analysing the reasons for this and try to accept the sad fact that I can’t make everybody happy. Another option is, of course, to get my laughs from another situation gone wrong.

There are several posts here in which humor is part of it. I normally don´t dare comment them. As my native language is not English, I am not sure if I am understanding well. And, as you say, there is also the different sense of humor in different places.

@maluse A great ploy is this - write a post, and when you get a comment edit the post and replace it with something else making the commenter look really stupid for having written an irrelevant, silly comment and reply to his comment asking what he's talking about. Maybe I have too much free time on my hands.

I've just gone and read that discussion. Having read many of your discussions the irony was obvious to me.
Maybe some of the commenters who didn't get it have read far too many poor book reviews and were just glad someone was providing some advice.

Some people don't want to offend and make a positive comment. You have to be very careful of what you say on any social site...things are taken differently by different people. You tread a slim line for the most part. That being said, I love your posts!

I had mess your last post, so after reading this one, I went back and found your last one and read it and then read the comments. Yea I see what your talking about, it might be, like you said they might not have understood the irony behind it. As for me, I thought it was kind of funny myself, in fact you could add movie and music reveiws to that also. lol

I suspect that I missed your post, but now I am going to read it. Several users here only read a few lines and jump to the end hoping that there is a question. They reply to the question and they skip reading. Ask a question that has nothing to do with the post and you "trap" them.

that the new way of ready - just find a word and focus on it - regardless of how it was illustrated in the post. Now I am not sure what to comment - about the crap book reviews, the people sense of humour, or a few mylot readers shooting themselves in the foot! ha ha ha

I haven’t read your previous post, but have to chuckle. My posts aren’t ironic, and I often get responses from myLotters that obviously haven’t read them. Could it be laziness, disinterest, difficultly with the English language, or plain stupidity?

Oh yes, lots of people don't read posts properly I'm afraid we just have to accept that. It's very annoying when you have taken a lot of trouble with a post, but not a lot we can do about it. Regarding the irony, it's a difficult thing for some people to grasp.

I absolutely love the photo you chose, I love the comments that I sometimes get that just say things like enjoy or I like it too. Then I sit back and think to myself considering what I wrote Enjoy what? and what do they like? I am always glad when I get comments that pertain directly to what I have written or ask additional questions.

No matter how carefully I read an article, my comment may relate to only one thing in the post, even just the title.
I might just have something I want to say to that person and choose that post to say it.
I actually read many posts here every day and leave no comment. And I read every word.
I say this every time someone says they know if I've read their discussion. It is one of my little peeves here. I don't care where people are from; I care if they criticize my comments.
