Vince's Pope shoes

Vince washed two pairs of his Nike sneakers today. We wouldn’t normally buy such expensive shoes but our son assured us they’re worth the money so to keep him happy we each have several pairs of Nikes now. Vince calls these his Pope shoes as the Pope wears red slippers. These are very light and very comfortable. They’re also very bright! If someone comments on his sneakers, Vince’s stock answer is ‘Well, I said to myself, if they’re good enough for Frank, they’re good enough for me’. Somehow, he always manages to come up with great answers.

They do look like they are comfortable shoes. That is not always easy to find, no matter how much you pay for a pair of shoes.

For me, they can feel really good in the shop but get them home and they start hurting.

@whiteream I'm sure you would find it hard to find suitable shoes. Do you wear crocs at all? They seem to be quite accommodating of different shaped/size feet.

@JudyEv I have to be careful because my feet are two different sizes and they are shaped differently. Many shoes I try hurt my feet. I live in sneakers.;

It's a bit disrespectful calling Pope Francis 'Frank' but I guess he's been called worse.

@1hopefulman It takes some a few seconds to catch on. They're not used to the pope being called 'Frank'.

Not all the shoes of the Pope are red, he has red, black and white shoes with the symbol of Vatican embroidered on top. Beautiful leather expensive shoes made in Novara (north of Italy).

@JudyEv I show you a photo of "some" of the pairs of shoes that were made for the actual Pope, a lot of money in this photo.

@LadyDuck Thanks for the photo. It seems you can find almost anything on the web - even a photo of the Pope's shoes. I'm glad he has at least one pair of red ones. They all look very elegant.

I'm sure they're not all red but we've seen photos of the red ones - which was enough for Vince to make the comparison. It's just a bit of fun. He is very austere in some ways but it seems he likes nice shoes.

Hahaha I would probably have nicknamed them Popes shoes too. But if you have a red pair we would call them Dorothy shoes!

I never thought of Dorothy. The shoes are really bright and now we've washed them they're even brighter.

@judyev I’ve heard here of red shoes being referred to as The pope’s shoes. Red socks are also know as popes’ socks.

No, you don't have to worry about losing him somewhere. I bought an expensive pair of Nike's back about 20 years ago, and I still have them..I don't wear them really...as they are kind of battered..but the soles are super thiick on them..you could probably walk cross country with them.
