Who is the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer in Your Family?

Chief cook and bottle washer means someone who performs routine tasks in the house. I have always been the chief cook and bottle washer in my house. I was even more so when I was a stay at home mom, although my husband always pitched in. He helped even more when I decided to return to my career. Now that I’m retired, my husband still helps out and has taken over the role of chief cook and bottle washer. He does it with love. Our boys are the same way. As proof, my photo shows one of the chocolate chip cookies our younger son perfected over the years - crisp on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. I have an entire container to eat! Now to fold my second load of laundry.

As we both work then neither one of us fits the description. Most of the mundane chores are shared fairly evenly. After Christmas we'll both have given up work so the same applies really.

I think it’s great when working or non-working spouses share the chores. Those days of the past are long gone.

@DianneN I think those days disappeared as soon as it became necessary for households to need 2 salaries just to get by. Certainly in the UK anyway.

You always impressed me as being a little balabusta. If you don’t know what that means, ask your husband if he ever heard of it.

Well these days I am single so I guess it would be me since no one else is there to do it. When I was a single dad, well it was still mostly me but the kids would pitch in here and there and do what they could.

I’m sure your girls help out with chores at home, and the kitchen is a great place to bond. I knew you were the chief cook and bottle washer with all those chores you are constantly doing.

Until recently I have been the chief cook and bottle washer. Now that my daughter is living with me she has taken over a lot of the tasks for which I'm grateful. I hate to admit it but she's "almost" a better cook than I am It's great when guys pitch in to he!p and it certainly looks like your son has mastered cookie baking and shared his creations with you!

My husband and I shared the chores when I worked nights. Sometimes he would pay one of the kids to wash the dishes or mow the yard. They always wanted spending money.

Mmm perfect cookie. Hubby likes oatmeal raisin. They have to be chewy inside just like the picture. Hubby is the chief cook and grocery shopper. Though I do it too. I do dishes and most of the housework. He does a lot of necessary tasks.

@paigea Oh, that hockey! My husband retired about 10 years before me, although he ran a few programs on the side. I made sure he was out of the bedroom so I could get ready for school. I didn’t have time to tiptoe around in the dark.

@DianneN Well I work and he doesn't. When he first retired he did all the cooking but he tired of that. And I understood that retirement meansctime to enjoy. And put 100 km in the truck every day to go to hockey.

Mmm, looks sooo good and it's just the way I like it but with nuts. I'm the only person at home so I do everything. But, this Sun. I did some ladder things, washing curtains, change light bulbs, new battery for smoke alarm, putting back up the curtains climbing to clean my screens and windows...my knee hurts now. I'm glad I learned some exercise from my doctor recently and it helped. I'm going to the chiropractor tomorrow so it's going to be alright. So kind of your husband to help you out!

@DianneN Thanks, and she will be able to help me. My physician gave me some exercises for stiff joints and it works too. My right leg has been giving me some trepidation so that's why I'm going to the chiropractor. I got the benefit just this month and was very happy about it for I know a chiropractor helps.
