I think that as a parent we have a responsibility to our children, but when they reach a certain age, that responsibility shouldn't entail telling our children what to do or making their decisions for them. It is our responsibility to gently guide our children, discuss all of their options with them including the pros and cons of each option, and allow them to make their own decision. Whatever they decide should receive support from the parent once the child has been made aware of all of his/her options.

This is why my grandmother had me on birth control as a teen because you just never know. God forbid some man would use force on me. I feel like some teens just take birth control or something. Once they are an adult they make their own decisions.

If I had a child I would educate them on contraceptive methods and even start them on contraception but they can fail. I would also ensure my child knows that they can come to me for support in any situation. I had a pregnancy scare once and did not feel secure in telling my mother given previously she had said I would be on the street if I did get pregnant. I would not necessarily advise them to have an abortion but to look at their options and whether they are happy to keep the baby or even after put the child up for adoption. Having said that though in my family there are commonly life threatening conditions that come with pregnancy and they may want to abort. I would not encourage a late stage abortion though. The unborn child has the right to life but doesn't your child have the right to choose have a right to live their life before having a child?
