Someone Really Really Wanted Our Car

Good afternoon! I just sat down to have a cup of coffee. I had routine bloodwork done at the lab for next week’s doctor appointment, read to my little darlings at the library where I volunteer, and then headed for a class at my gym. Whew! About the car.......We had it in valet parking while we were having dinner in Providence Sunday evening. Some random stupid car thief snuck into the parking lot and tried unlocking our car with a random tool without looking at the alarm notice on our window. To make a long story short, the alarm went off, we were notified by whomever monitors our car, the valet attendant called the police, and the idiot was arrested. Thank goodness there was no harm to the car. The owner of the restaurant didn’t charge us for our meal or the valet parking. He also insisted on giving us a gift certificate to use the next time we are there. My husband left tips for the waitstaff and valet parking attendant. We aren’t pressing charges, but hope the jerk of a wannabe car thief learned a good lesson.

That was a stupid thief. I am glad you had an alarm in the car. The restaurant owner is a kind person. He doesn´t want to lose customers.

This was the first time anything like this happened to any of our cars. We were so lucky. Yes, the owner of the restaurant went above and beyond the call of duty. Our dinner was over by then, too.

We would have had to make a court appearance and time is running out for us. Perhaps if it was local. We never have a dull moment when we are out and about it seems. So glad everything worked out well.

We were indeed lucky, and everyone was so nice. It would have been a very long walk home otherwise.

What a shame on the thief. He's an idiot failing to realize the cameras or burglar alarm. At least the culprit was arrested. The next time he'll do the same he'll be locked in jail

He was very, very kind to us. Unfortunately, we only visit there once every year or so. I guess we will return sometime next summer or fall. It’s too far from our house to just bebop over there.

That was so nice of the restaurant to give you your meal, valet parking and gift certificate for free. You will definitely return there with such wonderful staff like that. It shows they really value their customers to go above and beyond that way. Kind of you not to press charges. I hope he learns his lesson to but probably not.

Thank god, the thief was caught. My car was stolen last year November. And even though we somehow managed to buy a new one, we were without a car for almost 2 months. Also the mental agony and the financial setback due to that theft still linger on. So we park our car mostly in safe places. Yet the fear remains. But the question is: How that person managed to sneak in? Does he know one of the parking attendants? Police ought to enquire this.

@DianneN Well it was a hard time late last year and early this year. And the Police wasn't helpful. One of the cops asked me "Why didn't you park in a Paid Parking? " And I had to tell him that there was no paid parking till a lot of distance from that place. But now, I do try to park at paid or covered parkings.

I’m so sorry your car was stolen. I can imagine how awful that must have been for you. I’m always fearful of things like that. From what I know, the thief snuck into the parking area while the attendants were busy with customers. No, the attendants claim they didn’t know him. The thief wasn’t too bright.

You have a good heart by not pursuing any charges against the thief. We don't know the real score about the thief but there might be a big reason why he did it.

We live too far from that city we were in to pursue the case. I’m sure he wanted the car for a joy ride, to sell, or to sell the parts from it. Money is usually the motive, but it doesn’t make stealing someone’s own possessions right.
