Eating disorders- why do we have them

Do you have an eating disorder?
I do! My eating disorder is that I like eating too much. I like eating good-tasting food.
Normally, we should only eat when we are hungry. However, we often eat when we are bored, when we are upset, when we have nothing to do, when someone is born, when some one dies, etc.
Why do we like eating so much? Is there something in the food that makes it addictive? Is there a mechanism in the body that is not working properly?

I had that problem for most of my life that I would eat too much but not because I enjoyed it. I did it to escape bad things in my life and found food to fill the void. There are those that think they are fat so they become anorexics and throw up what they ate so they will not gain weight.

Mostly, it is greed. When the food is tasty, we eat more and more, even when we do not feel hungry.
The body needs food. The mind wants food.

Its taught that we are "supposed" to eat 3 times a day with a couple snacks.
I now only eat when hungry.
I am at times a stress eater.

I think if food didn't taste good we would not have a problem.

We need to eat every day to meet our needs. When we are happy we usually eat more and more delicious. Sometimes we also eat disorder because of a tasty food. That is normal. But the more and more eat disorder frequency, we need doctor's consultation to be able to ensure the balance between our eating needs with the excess energy intake in the body.

I feel that we mostly have a body disorder. If we eat good things but we exercise enough, we will not put on weght. But we lead sedentary lives. It id a shame.

Yes, it's good to exercise! I think that if we made food that doesn't taste good then no one would overeat.

@marguicha They need a lot of seasoning. There is no way I would ever eat one, even if I starving.

Hey friend, I didn't watch the video any longer.
To answer your question, nope, I have no eating disorder. Somewhere back in time, I loved to eat, somehow because I am Filipino and it is in our culture to eat all the time.
In time, I did realize that eating nutritious food is nourishment.
Keep in mind that capital sin - gluttony - whenever you are tempted to indulge on devouring food.
One practice I made to resolve my passion for eating is actually sparing half of my food and sharing it with another, so another may not go hungry and live.

Thanks for your reply! I like to eat healthy food and don't want to eat junky foods but it is hard to stay away as they make the junky food taste so good.

@1hopefulman Work on the word. Junk means scraps or rubbish. I won't put discarded food in my body.

@LadyDuck I have a little store in my building and they sell a lot of chips and sometimes I give in to my cravings and buy some BBQ chips. They are amazing!

@1hopefulman The only thing I really like that is something I should not eat are potato chips. I avoid to buy, so I am not tempted.

My husband eats, because he loves the taste. So, he eats more & more! The appestat is our natural appetite button. It's suppose to turn 'on', when we're hungry and then 'off', when our system is satisfied. With many people, this button has been ignored far too long.

I don't really overeat as I only weigh 125 lbs. It's just that I love to eat the wrong foods and have to constantly fight to make sure that I don't overdo it. Where is the control button?

@kobesbuddy That's the problem, it should be the belly button.

Here, everywhere I go they have junky foods and when I see them and smell them, even though they are not good for me, I want to eat them. I have to fight to resist.

@Nevena83 Yes, not having enough money can make it easier. I have a lot of friends and I'm often invited to their homes and so it is harder to resist as I don't want to hurt their feelings.

@just4him I would love to feel like that! So, I never buy anything that I don't want to eat and may only have such things when invited out.

@1hopefulman I would need to be totally desperate to eat them. I haven't had a donut in a long time, and when I had cake a couple of weeks ago, it was enough. It didn't even interest me.

Interesting! What would happen if somebody sent your favorite pizza to your house? Could you look at it, smell it and put in the fridge to eat on another day?

@1hopefulman Depends on how I feel that day. Most days, probably not.
