Terrible that you have to go out in that weather.

I just catch the school bus. The driver is a farm wife and knows how to drive anything, anytime.

I remember living in Albany and waiting for the school bus in wind chills of -22. Ugh. That was the worst.
Tonight in Charlotte the low will be in the 20s. Liv needs to bundle up to wait for her bus in the morning.

@GardenGerty Albany had the worst temperatures of any place we ever lived. Here, the worst thing is the swings. One day it might be 70. Then overnight temps may drop into the 20s. Ugh lol

Yes, owning outdoor animals adds an extra layer of responsibility whether it is cold or not. My granddad would get up in the dark and go out to the barn, etc. Of course by the time he got back there would be biscuits, oatmeal, meat, eggs, gravy, etc. along with lots of hot coffee. The animals came first, always.

We were short staffed, it was interesting, but does not really affect me except for my lunch.

The highways have been brined already, and are well traveled. I take an easy walk over to meet the bus, but yes, I must be careful.

I grew up in a cold area and the only time our school shut for winter was if we had an ice storm that knocked out the power! My parents worked in a rural school and they were always getting snow days for drifting snow, but not me in my city school, oh no. They would wave goodbye from behind their coffee cups.

When my (40 year old) kids were little we never had snow days. The district said that was because families did not have day care. We had awesome rural bus drivers and if the buses could get through in the country we had school.

I just read that most of the country is getting an arctic blast right now. I think here in Santa Fe, we're getting normally cool temps and the blast is missing us. It can get really cold here, but I don't usually have to go out in it for which I'm grateful. I don't blame you for wanting to stay in bed. I hope you have good heat at the school. Brrrrrr!

The heat is good at the school. Once I am outdoors my attitude really improves. It is the thought of the cold that really gets to me.
