Do you always say 'thank you' everytime someone does you a favor?

This morning a small school boy was in my shop and asked for some eatable. I gave him whatever he wanted and said thank you. He again asked for something and again I gave it to him and said thank you. The boy asked me " Uncle why are you saying thank you to me on the contrary I should say thank you to you because you are giving me whatever I want and I am a small boy." I told him you are my customer and we are always thankful to the customer.
