CCTV seeming to have a problem

Our cctv system was installed some 3 years ago. It's working fine but lately I have noticed that it would reboot by itself. My suspicion is the hard disk. Maybe it is getting full. CCTV is great for security. It gives us peace of mind.

It might be starting to get problems with HDD or the camera itself is already starting to falter. But it would be nice to have it checked by technicians who are into it.

@Alexandoy Oh that will need time to be defrag since the file used in that hdd is quite large format videos so it needs sometime to really defrag it.

@rsa101 what I think is to buy a new HDD and replace the old one that would be reformatted. That is easier than defragging.

The technician said that the HDD needs to be defragged and it's a long process so I said it's fine and we can manage with the frequent re-booting of the system. We only turn it on when we leave home or at night.

The hard disk is less than $100 so I guess we can afford to replace it.

You are right. In the news on tv, there is always the cctv footage as part of the report on crimes.

It is very useful when we leave home because we can view the footage via Internet.

For a modest size of a house, what's the ideal number of CCTV cams to be installed and where to install?

We have 3 cameras only. One in the living room that covers 3 access points, front door, back door and garage door. Another in the backyard and also in the front yard. The machine is in our bedroom.
