People who hurt animals, WHY ???

A teenager has been jailed for beating a dog to death with a plank of wood embedded with nails. Christopher Munns, 18, from Norfolk, was sentenced to four months in prison by Mildenhall magistrates on Monday 4 September, for causing unnecessary suffering to his grandmother's dog. Munns was also banned from owning all animals for 10 years after previously pleading guilty to beating Flossy, an eight-year-old Jack Russell terrier, to death with a two-foot long plank of wood in March this year. Flossy belonged to Munns' grandmother whom he lived with at the time of the attack. Flossy had been left in the house with Munns for the evening, but was dead when her owners returned later the same evening. Upon being questioned about the dog's death, he threw the dog's dead body at his grandmother. A post mortem on Flossy's body showed that she had suffered eight fractured ribs and internal bleeding which led to heart and respiratory failure. The examining vet concluded that the dog was hit at least five times with the piece of wood and that she would have been conscious and feeling pain throughout the majority of the attack. "This was a brutal attack which would have caused the dog extreme suffering," said RSPCA Chief Inspector Mark Thompson. "The sentence shows how seriously this sort of attack is taken and it should send out the message that we will not tolerate any kind of cruelty to animals." Should we be allowed to keep animals, I believe if they bite or scratch then a tap on the nose to make them understand its not allowed is ok, but beating them ?!?!? WHY??
