Lately, I'm concerned about my beloved cat, Wylie lately. And so have my brother. This coming month, at the end of December, he'll turn 21 years old. I've had him for 13 years too. But he's been losing weight and really bony an thin. I do fed him multiple times a day, both wet and dry, though he prefers wet over the dry. He does drink water and goes to the litter box too. I don't know why he's not gaining weight.
So I'm afraid I might have to email my brother and also call the vet next week and see what I can do. Find out how much it would take to bring him in since my money's a bit tight these days. If he's sick like with a cold or some other medical condition, I don't know what to do other than giving him medicine. I hope he's declining health isn't something serious like he's dying and nothing can be helped. I'm a bit afraid of losing him if he doesn't get gain any weight soon.
Have this happened to you and your pet? If so, what would you do in my shoes? I might talk to a church friend tomorrow who knows a lot about cats, if she's there. If not, I might give her a call too.

Even for humans, losing weight without reason may mean something serious.

I lost weight because I worked out at the gym five years ago. I'm still having a battle tog gain weight, pound by pound. You could be right if he's ill if not a cold.

So sorry, it could be hyperthroidism..which can be treated, but he has lived a longer than average life..you may have to prepare
yourself..I hope Wylie can be helped.

I hope it is nothing serious but if it is it sounds like he has lived a pretty good life.

@KristenH Right but if you don’t I am sure you don’t want him suffering.

Me too. Yes he has. I hope I can have him for a tiny bit longer until I have enough money to take care of his vet needs.

It might just be his age. Talk to the vet and go from there with you decision.

About two years ago I went through the shock and horror of two of my felines suddenly becoming ill. I ended up taking them to the doc for the final time. It killed me but they were suffering. I keep my sweet ones as long as I can and yet I try to keep my ego out of the way. If my sweetie is not having fun and is suffering, its time to let go. I still cry but God needed them more than me. Hugs.
