The world has gone Bananas!

Well this just beggars belief. You could not make this up. A so called artist stuck a banana on the wall of an art gallery in Basel, Switzerland with some duct tape which was sold for $120,000 Dollars. (£91,000).
However the plot thickens another artist pulled it from the wall and ate the banana.
Who in their right mind would do such a thing. (Here I am not talking about the eating of the banana but rather a supposed artist) A so called artist called Maurizio Cattelan an Italian citizen! He is no more an artist than an elephant bouncing on a trampoline!
I may be an uneducated nobody but to me this is not art at all. It makes me quite angry that this sort of thing goes on for the ridiculous sums of money. There are many young unknown artists who do incredible works who receive no recognition at all for their talents and yet Mr Cattelan sold three pieces of fruit for around the same price.
The world of art has gone bonkers and the people who bought this so called piece of art have more money than sense especially when you consider there are thousands around the world starving and these people are taking liberties.
Well I have bought 2 LBS of sprouts A kilo to those on the continent and in countries using the metric system.
I have covered them with silver foil. They represent twinkle twinkle little stars!
For you my friends on mylot a favour I offer them to you at only, Yes that's right, 'ONLY' £50,000 pounds each. Please don't hang about they won't last long!
Please PM me how you would like to make payments to me via paypal via mylot.

Maurizio Cattelan is not at all an artist but the idiots are those who think he is. He was making furniture as job and one day he decided he was an artist, ridiculous. I have in the kitchen 4 bananas, and I can put them on Auction here right now, I will be very generous, only $5,000 each and I will had a piece of tape free.

@garymarsh6 I wonder if "rotten bananas" would be more artistic and more expensive.

@garymarsh6 @LadyDuck @jaboUK @Berniezeitler Art bashing is a favoured pastime. Yet, what art bashers always seem to forget it that there are artists and their art and then there is the art market. These are two different pairs of shoes. Nobody in their right mind would say that something is more artful only because it is expensive. For many people buying a piece of art is a financial investment.
Besides, nowadays people are looking for sensations and many artists know how to create some. Let Tracy Emin exhibit her tents. If nobody looked at them, that would be it. Yet, many people do look at them and make a lot of noise about them. The same is true for Damien Hearst. I've seen artefacts by Emin, Hearst and Cattelan. Emin and Hearst leave me cold. Cattelan's pieces show some humour.

Per sprout of course but if you wanted to put a collection together to make a model of Ursa Major that is going to set you back quite a few dollars!

Funny you should say that. That is what I thought until I visited the Picasso museum. In his younger day he was a conventional artist but then afterwards developed his style of painting. I helped me understand him immensely and the story about his life. It changed my opinion about him completely.
But this crazy guy is a step too far. How many sprouts shall I save for you?

@garymarsh6 i reckon art 'tis like all beauty, 'tis 'p to the eyes 'f the beholders. i 'gree though, folks with more money'n sense. $120,000 donated to local charities would'a helped those'n need'n they could'a wrote such off their taxes, lol.

It sounds like I have chosen the wrong kind of art. I am going to abandon my drawings and paintings and sell "fruit art" instead
No, it is ridiculous. I wouldn't call it art at all.

Thank you, you are very wise. I saw some beautiful art in the Hermitage Museum. I could have spent weeks in there!

I agree about the art world going bonkers. But it never has been very sane. It's like the king's new clothes all over again.

Arr but have you worn it? It makes all the difference. You know there are people who do buy worn clothing or shoes if you put them on Ebay and some pay an awful lot for them too! How mad is that! For example my daughters duty shoes cost her around £70 she told me some of her colleagues were selling them for around £300 on ebay. I told her not to be so daft!

I was shocked when I came to know that this useless piece of art was sold at a staggering $120,000! I mean what kind of mindset people have while buying such pieces. This amount of money could have been donated to poor families and homeless people! That would have been a better use of such huge amount!

Absolutely I am with you on that. So much money that could really make a difference to so many people! For starters it would buy just over 42,887, 1 kilo bags of the best basmati rice. Imagine how many could be helped for that kind of money!
