Introducing Chester

We spent two nights at my sister’s house recently. She has a granny flat (small house) on her son’s 5-acre block. Her son and his partner have recently got two puppies. One is a chocolate Labrador and the other a Shih Tzu/Poodle cross. The labrador is called Chester and is developing into a big dog. Look at the size of his feet! And he is only perhaps four months old at the most. He is very affectionate but still needs to learn a few manners. A dog his size jumping up on my 5 foot, 81-year-old sister, could easily knock her over. I’m sure in time he’ll be a wonderful companion. He looks a bit hangdog here, doesn’t it? He probably can’t understand why nobody wants to be licked to death.

Some people don't mind dogs licking them. I don't like it but that's okay. He is going to be too big though to keep jumping up on people.

@JudyEv we have labs and they like to lick. My son-in-law has a lab/pit bull mix. She arrives and the licking triples!

labs are so wonderful and sweet to be such big dogs. My black lab was the same and it took me a while to teach him. I miss that dog. Lost him to this awful state Florida too. stayed sick after we moved here and finally had to put him to sleep.

Oh, that is so sad. They do seem to stay very 'juvenile' for quite some time.

My sister won't go in the backyard with him unless someone else is there. He probably weighs nearly as much as she does.

With that great, strong tail whipping around, they can sweep everything off a coffee table in one go.

He is going to be one large dog! I had a rather large and beautiful black lab growing up. He was also very intelligent. I also had the most wonderful English Springer Spaniel named Chester, whom we considered our third son.

Puppies are always boisterous, but still you don't always want them landing in lap!

I'm sure he'll improve but even now he weighs quite a bit if he suddenly jumps up and plants those two big paws in your ribs.
