We are now in Yallingup in our friends’ house which is normally let out to holiday groups. It is a very well-set-up place and brings in a lot of money during the holiday season so we feel very privileged to be able to spend four nights here with our friends.
Several of you have asked about the bushfires here. We have been seeing fire-bombers flying back and forth in this area. There is a fire to the west but we are in no danger at the moment.
However, that could change if we were to get a sea breeze. The other concern is that there is only one way out of this place which is a bit of a worry. We have all parked with the cars facing the exit road and we are keeping a close eye on the fire and emergency website. But, unless something untoward happens, we are perfectly safe.
We have wifi here so I’m taking the chance to say a very Happy New Year to you all. The others have gone to a nearby town and will be bringing back a whole fish to barbecue. I’m sure it’s going to be a great evening.
The photo is another view of the waterwheel which I shared with you last post.

I had seen the news report about the fires in Australia. It was really a big fire scattered in some areas. The latest was in NSW.

@JudyEv I wish that the bush fires will stop. Maybe let's hope for the rain.

New South Wales and Victoria are both having a lot of trouble. WA isn't quite so badly off.

I pray they get the fires contained soon. We worry in the summer since we live in the forest. I hope it doesn't go near you. We will eat out tomorrow for dinner and I'll have fish too. I'm not sure what kind yet. We landed in Maui today and depends where we decide to eat. Might be Bubba Gumps.

@JudyEv Is fish a traditional New Years meal in Australia, or did you just happen to want fish on this particular occasion?
I'm glad it turned out delicious. I love fish, especially when you can cook it just the way you like!

@moffittjc No, it's not traditional at all except I guess that many people would be on holiday at the beach and might decide to have fish whether they've caught it or bought it.

@JudyEv - Oh, that is so sad. I heard an update on the number of lost animals today. They said it was estimated to be a "staggering 500 million lost animals." That really is a staggering number and so sad to think that some species have been wiped out. Heartbreaking.

@DeborahDiane They believe that some species will have been wiped out. It has been like an apocalyse over East.
