Saving the coins and loose change

In our living room, there is an ash tray that holds the petty cash - that is the money which is for marketing and other needs. For the loose change, I put in a small jar. When the jar is filled, I put the coins into a bigger jar. At the end of the year, those loose coins can amount to something.

I almost never use cash, I keep some coins just to pay the parking.

Is the credit card the standard mode of payment there? Over here it's still cash especially for small purchases.

@Alexandoy Yes, almost nobody uses cash anymore, the contactless card is the best way to pay.

@LadyDuck in South Korea, I have noticed that they were paying with the cell phones. I just don't know what kind of payment is that, may be a credit card.

I don't keep any money in the house when I'm not home... in Japan if your house is broken into, they take cash, not electronics because cash can't be traced.

@Alexandoy yep and my house was broken into once... once every six months or so one house or another in my neighborhood gets broken into. I couldn't believe it either.

I have a jar that I save money in until it is full. Which takes a long time.

You are like my wife who saves the loose coins in a big jar. My estimate would take here 10 years. But then she bought a bamboo cylinder that she uses as her bank for the coins. Maybe she can fill that in 3 years.

I have 1 jar full of small coins for the church but I keep forgetting about it. My jar of 5 peso coins was consumed by the carolers.

It's really amazing how quickly loose change can add up! We have a container that sits by our kitchen for loose change. It's a pint glass milk jug right now, last month it was a Christmas bowl. It holds the change we find while we're out and about. At the end of the month, I empty it into a bigger milk jug and it eventually gets rolled when we have enough in there. So far this month we've added $0.67 to it.

It looks like we have the same style of saving. In a year that can amount to something.

@Alexandoy I have some coins saved in a body lotion jar. I will make a bigger jar as other coins that I saved recently are lying all over. Do you save enough?

Get any kind of container that will hold the coins. My piggy bank is a biscuit can, 2 of those for each kind of money - one for coins and 1 for paper bills.

@Archie0 my annual savings always go to the budget for carolers. It is my personal tradition to encourage caroling so I never fail to give money and treats to the carolers.

I've put all the money I get from bottle deposit (there's a deposit on all cans and plastic bottles, but not on glass bottles anymore) in a jar. It's mainly for those days when I can't find my purse, it happens every now and then. I pay mainly with card, but when I can't find any of the cards, it's good to have some cash.

@Alexandoy I've got several cards. Normally I carry two, some times 3 or 4. Some places you can also pay with your phone. But when none of those work, cash is good

I always have a little cash in my wallet. Sometimes my credit card is denied so at least I can pay for the purchases I made.

@Torunn I have 3 credit cards but when one fails or denied, I pay in cash. But if the purchase is quite big then I have to resort to the other cards, waheehee.

My sister does this and she saves up around £500 which she takes on holiday. I always seem to use my change for the school as they are always asking for something.

@Alexandoy Yes she doesn't use her loose change much on a day to day basis so it's worth it for her.

This reminds me of the new 20-peso coin. My wife got one from the bank that said they were given only 20 pieces by the central bank. It's like year 2020 so 20 pieces only, waheehee.
