Missing Him

Each morning when I first awake
I touch his smiling face
but it's just a photograph
as he has left this place.
His smile, his laugh, his impish charm
they're all sweet memories now,
I know that I'll get used to it
but really don't know how.
His chair is looking so forlorn
as empty as my heart,
I talk to him but he's not there
it hurts that we're apart.
If you are one who's lost your love
you'll know that love won't die
it's all still there within yourself
though months and years go by.
But if you've yet to find that 'one'
I hope you do some day
for then you'll know and understand
why grief won't go away.
I miss him.
Photo of me and my husband, he died February 2019.

That’s such a beautiful photo of the two of you.
I know how much you miss him, Janet. It can’t be very easy to lose your soulmate after so many years of love and wonderful memories.
I feel for you and understand your grief, so beautifully stated in your poem.
My parents, brothers-in-law, and most recently Doodles are with me in my heart every single day.
I knew the date was approaching. Sending you love and hugs.

@jaboUK Liz said that the first year was the hardest for her especially because he passed near the middle of November which is close to our Thanksgiving but after that hurdle she started concentrating on all the fun she had with him and their kids, it was helpful.

This really says it all Janet. I lost the love of my life in 1993 and I still miss him every single day. It does get easier as time passes but you never truly get over it.

@Marilynda1225 I really do cherish the memories - I try to focus on all the good times we had and I succeed most of the time

Beautiful poem, beautiful photo and the grief is something we work through although we don´t want it who really would want grief as it is?
I prefer to feel good now and send them love and light but that does not mean to say I don´t have those days also.

Its part and parcel of all that feeling which is not good to bottle up inside only hurts more instead.
Its a part of what we go through like it or not.

Your poem brought tears to my eyes. Not even a year yet so it must still hurt. Take comfort in the fact that you had the kind of love that some people never find. That's why you miss him so much.

@jaboUK If you believe in the afterlife you will be reunited one day.

@sprite1950 I'm afraid I don't. My daughter does though, and she's convinced we'll see him again.

My heart goes out to you. I knew it was getting close to a year. Sending comforting thoughts and healing hugs. If not physical then as close as possible.

@jaboUK I struggled with this one. I started crying within the first 4 lines and had to keep taking little breaks throughout. But was still a pleasure to read. Very heartfelt. I love the photo.

Made me think of the time my children left the nest. I missed them so. Especially since I bought lots of expensive stuff for them. (I ended up having them for myself since they left things behind. I was pleased in a sense, for normally I would never dare purchased those things for myself.)
Take care.
