A model cow

We had a relaxing four days with friends recently. We all did our own thing pretty much. Some went for walks, others read or played one of several games that they’d brought with them. One evening we played bocce/petanque/boules on the patch of lawn below the deck. One had brought several jigsaws with her and you can see the one we completed in the top photo. The next day, when we went to lunch at a winery, there on the wall was a painting of a Friesian/Holstein cow. I think she must have been the model for the jigsaw. What do you think?

Both the puzzle and the painting are lovely! I have never heard of what you played on the lawn.

You can see it here: Each player has several balls and you have to lob them as close as you can to the little gold ball.
After my recent posts about couch-surfers and bowling greens, this occasion popped up in my memory which sort of combines the two subjects. We had three...

My folks had a Friesian stud way back. They sure gave a lot of milk. Before Mum was married, the family had a dairy and supplied milk for the town.

It sounds like you had fun with your friends. I would have been with the walking group, for sure. I love walking.

@JudyEv Walking has been found to be just as effective a workout as jogging. And it's kinder on the joints and bones :)

@Lushlala We are all in our 70s so jogging isn't a good option for us.

That's a pretty good jigsaw that I'm sure Anne Astilla (a young and cute member here -@Thrilliana ) would appreciate. She loves jigsaw puzzles.

@Thrilliana They are fun to do, aren't they? I just finished another one today. I don't do them very often as I find it hard to stop and then I get a very stiff neck. :)

@Thrilliana 2000 pieces are a lot. I had quite a lot once but only that had 2000 pieces, but most I've given away now.

That's a sweet milker. I'd prefer a Jersey but I have to admit that Bossy is pretty.

@JudyEv Jersey milk has a much higher fat content. Tasty! Yes on those Jersey calves. Very soft.

@sallypup Every dairy herd in the district has a couple of Jersey or Guernsey cows to help life butterfat content. Otherwise it's fence to fence Holstein/Friesians.

We always had Red Poll cross or Friesians as house cows and the calves were big, strong creatures. Then we got a Jersey and her calf was fine and dainty like a little fawn.

@judyev Sounds like a peaceful few days. I’m booked for a peaceful week in Connemara with sheep all over everything in July and we hope to. Spend June in Donegal or Normandie.

What a couple of fun days you had. The old Italians love to play bocce in my home state. Otherwise, it’s not popular much. Love the cows, but my first love is lunch at a winery.
