We have to get to know our new pets for a day or two.
We’ve had Farfel, Lucky, Chester, Cyrus the Great, Tazi, Oodie, S. Milton Cats, Pooka, Kuma, Tiger, and Doodles.
Some came from TV or movie characters, others from foreign words, and others we just made up.

A taxi driver put her in a trunk of his cab cause he was going to sell her that night. I was his last passenger and I was on my way home when I heard a puppy barking so I thought I let my sister look at it. Taxi looked so tiny and sickly but my sister loved it. We bought her instead and named her Taxi.

My dogs right now are named after cartoon characters. The goats names all rhyme. The horses and cats names are all over the place. But sometimes a name just fits and you know it.

The pet that I had in my childhood were two dogs, few cows , two rabbits and a parrot. They were called Tony and Jake ( dogs). My grandfather named them. I called my cows as Kaali, Laali and Suhaani ( based on their colors) , my rabbits were called Champak and Nandan( my favortie childhood magazines) and parrot was named Tulsi by my grandmother. Maybe because he could chant all mantras like Tulsidas
After marriage I had a dog for 17 long years. It was named Topaz because of it's shiny golden fur resembling topaz stone.

@Butterfingers I like to know things like this too. My cat was given to me so she was already named. I'm not completely sure what I would have named her otherwise.

I have always had a hard time naming my pets. I dog I named Carli but not after Carly Simon. Every winter I would be cold and in Hebrew the word for me being cold is Carli so I decided to name my dog that. My cat was named by someone else. My Sophie came to me with a weird name and so had to change it. I felt she looks exactly like a Sophie would look like so I changed her name to Sophie.

Yes it is about on how we feel, its uniqueness or characteristic. By the way, this is only a friendly reminder that using cp text or "text speak" is not allowed. Please check the guidelines.

Our dog Gizmo came with his name already since we adopted him from a family that couldn't keep him.
Our other little dog is a rescue and she loves to be cuddled and snuggled so she was named Mush
