Here in Oregon they go ahead and log burn sites. A lot of times the brush burns and the trees are scorched/burned on the outside but still okay inside. So they cut them down and send them to a mill to salvage the lumber and clear the land for replanting... One day many years ago I was in the local hospital having a baby.. I got the job done at about dinner time so they wrapped up the baby boy, laid him in my arms and wheeled our bed out into the hallway to take us to my room to have some dinner. Several of my uncles had just come in from 'logging a burn' and heard I was in the hospital so they decided to stop and see the baby! They were all totally filthy and full of black soot from head to toe but all of them were lined up googling the new baby as we rolled down the hallway..Not one person in that hospital thought anything about it. lol.. It's Oregon...we log anything. lol. I wish someone had taken a picture of that moment. All of that land is now normal timberland, and with today's management it has been logged (and replanted) several times .. Life goes on...:-) Hang in there my Aussie mates.. I love your country, and it will be okay.
