Living Life Differently

In the last week or so, I have noticed myself doing a few things (which I used to avoid due to this or that reason): - bringing cutting roses inside the house in order to admire their beauty better. - turning one of my front lawns into a flower patch with chrysanthemum, gerbera, gardenia, marvel of peru, poppy etc. - planted a peony and an ocean pearl gardenia right opposite my kitchen window. Let see if these flower patches survive the current weird weather... Have you been doing anything differently lately (with respect to normally)?

That was my lifestyle in Latvia where I had a large garden. In May our lilacs were blooming and I always thought how sad that they only bloomed for a short while and then it hit me that while they are blooming I should cut branches and bring them inside and then our house always smelled so lovely

hmm, we have japanese crepe myrtle trees popping up everywhere around our property. The flowers are quite pretty (purple-ish pink). Guess this year I will cut some to give to one of my good neighbors. (Like you, I am addicted to scented flowers, even if I would end up sneezing soon after.)

@YrNemo Haha I remember your sister Elsa (as in Queen Elsa and you’re Anna or vice versa?)

My older sister admired me for my green thumb, but I don't think I am even gifted in that area. Planting things with me, is just a kind of some experiments, if they grow as I predicted, then all is good (experiment is over, the plants could die afterwards for all I care ), or I will keep trying again until whenever. It is nice of course, if the plants could take care of themselves afterwards.

@sol_cee eh, have you watched Frozen 2? I watched it last week, it was so cute. (hmm, that is interesting re: my older sister and me. She could be the Elsa OK. )

When roses bloom more we will start bringing them in also. That way we don’t have to buy fresh roses. And main reason why I wanted to plant roses

Roses are beautiful aren't they. I could sit there admiring the roses forever. (I like yellow and ombray pink. I have deep dark red and red/white mix here too.)

@infatuatedbby Roses are considered as queen of all the flowers (some books say so). They are beautiful aren't they. (Until they become over-bloomed .)

I’m sure your flowers look beautiful. I have all I want in Florida without having to plant any. lol My life is pretty normal for me, although I swam 30 laps in the pool today. That was a first!

@YrNemo I’m always so amazed that your flowers bloom this time of year. And I love gardenias. Have a lovely legal bath and don’t shrivel up in the tub.

wow... 30! I tried 5 the other day, and I thought that was very brave of me already! (oops, now you know my weakness! ) By the way, the fragrant gardenias have a few flowers opening today. (one at the front, one at the back. I feel happy seeing those white shy petals slightly opening & peeping at me... I did choose the pots with most blooms. )

@DianneN Some nurseries manage to sell pot plants in perfect shape, whatever the weather (don't know how they do it). The moment the plants changed hands/got purchased (by me), they wilt and die... (I lost quite a bit of money that way, but a brief and short happiness is still a happiness , especially the deals are often good, say, $10 for 4 pots here, 3 pots there. These gardenias were $10 for two. They could die if they want to in a few week time, I don't mind really .)

That's nice that you have some garden beds underway. I don't think I do anything much differently at the moment.

I saw a frail senior (an Asian lady) walking pass my front garden yesterday while I was weeding. She gave me a wishful smile, so I gave her a pretty rose bud (an ombre rose). She looked so happy that it really made my day.

I try to bring flowers in to enjoy them more too. I'm glad I brought in a camelia flower this year as the big freeze in November killed all the buds and I did not get many flowers at all. I'm hoping that it will rebloom here soon.

I had considered planting some camelia in the past, but after observing their tendency (the flowers' petals) got bruise so fast with our weather here, I decided against the idea. (I had seen the whole tree full of blooms, ALL got bruised flowers, can you believe it?)

@YrNemo Wow! We have a huge tree here and it is good as long as we don't have a hard freeze. This year it hit in mid November which is very strange. We usually don't have weather that cold until Jan and Feb. That killed all the buds so not many flowers at all here this year. This is an older bush and it about as tall as a one story building. It is beautiful when in full bloom.

I planted successfully some marigold from my old seeds (even if the season is wrong for this). I was so pleased. BUT THEN, I found out two days ago, that some snails ate them all in a few hours. How could they do that to me!!! (So I threw some snail pellets there, and I saw them "sun tanning" with their bellies up the next day... )

Well today I had a little walk in my society's park, and watched the trees and plants more carefully. I had some philosophical thoughts on observing them. Also, on seeing one of the trees, I realized that my hair have grown a bit untidy and big, and I need a haircut soon.

You are getting quite "floral"! I hope your flowers do well and continue to color your home! The only thing I am truly doing differently is not buying extra stuff anymore . . . I am really on the road to getting rid of things as much as I can (I think I've mentioned that previously).

@YrNemo Oh those darn sales .. . they spoil the plan . I have been good to go on zero clearance sales after the holidays . . . the sales out here don't seem to be "great" anymore - and by the tim I think about it, I decide we really don't need it (though it's tempting ). I know, I know, I actually love all my purchases no matter what .
@YrNemo (20255)

I have kept making resolutions like that, year after year, as in, 'I am not buying more of this, or more of that ever again, or at least, only buy them say, 3 years from now...' And you know what? I would see a sale or two a few days later. The discount price and the quality of the items were shockingly good, so I bought them again. Problem is, I don't think I regretted buying them at all .

I have been doing a lot more weekend traveling so far this year, but I think that's only because my schedule has allowed that at this point in time. So I'm trying to squeeze in as much fun local mini-vacations as I can while we have mild weather and while I have open availability on my calendar.

I noticed this year I have begun to do things which I normally avoided (as in bringing my cutting flowers inside - due to my habit of sneezing in their presence, after a day or so). I used to respect the lawns, but this year, I destroyed parts of them so far (and not regret one bit ).
