A New Way For Me To Deal With SOME Notifications

I want to get to everything eventually. That is always my goal. But sometimes I do find myself going into my notifications, seeing a very high number, and feeling a bit overwhelmed or even discouraged.
So I am going to try something different.
I am going to create a word pad file and I will select at random certain notifications links and plop them into my word pad file. When the time is right and when I need something to do on slower days, I will have plenty of stuff to get back to you.
PLUS, there IS an upside to this. Any of those posts will have the chance to get new life breathed into them since it could be days later that I get back to them, respond most likely, and put them right back on the top of the pile in the MOST RECENT ACTIVITY section of the site.
Meaning others may see the post and think it is something new, and have a chance to respond as well.
Should make life a little bit easier around here.

I delete the likes and the 'mentions' first, then respond to the comments. I've noticed that for each person who leaves a comment, there are 3 notifications. One for like, one for comment and one for mention.
Beats the heck out of opening them all.

What I have noticed is that when you go to Notifications and it says you have a huge number of notifications it doesn't mean they are all new. It will include those you've already responded to.

@porwest What notifications you get depend on your notification settings... but since notifications stay for like seven days you may think you didn't respond to something but you already did.

@lovebuglena Well, I usually will delete the notification as soon as I answer it.

Well yeah. If I am reading you right, my notifications tell me who has responded to one of my discussions, but will also tell me who has responded to a response I made on one of theirs. I generally answer ALL responses and comments. AND of course, I tend to keep conversations going for quite some time. So it just adds to the "building on" factor. I might respond 10 times or more on a single discussion depending on if the person I am responding to knows how to keep it going.

Anything is worth a try. Sometimes I do not post anything new for weeks, because I am overwhelmed by the idea of dealing with all the notifications. I always try to respond to other people who comment on my posts, but it can take a lot of time.

@porwest - Yes, sometimes I get comments on a really old post, and it surprises me, but I always try to respond to them. We get a lot of notifications here! I only post about once a month, sometimes less. Of course, I don't earn much, either!

Posting CAN create some SERIOUS notifications for sure. But I still tend to post often figuring eventually I will get to them all even if it might take me some time. Sometimes when I DO finally get to a certain response someone might exclaim, "This post is two years old." Yes it is, I say, but I still responded.

I just figure if I save the notification in a file, on certain days I can go back to them and still get to them past the 7 day limit. Not sure if there is a TON of value in putting them to the top of the heap in MOST RECENT ACTIVITY since I always get the impression that few people go there to find posts.

The notifications often distract from getting to new posts.

Good luck with your plan. I have the time to keep up with Discussions and Notifications; so I don't have that problem.
