Possibly a treatment soon available against the Covid-19

The VirPath lab is a French public research lab based in Lyon and specialized in viral pathology. Instead of working on a vaccine or a new drug, which is something that may take years, they are testing on the Covid-19 since 6 weeks all known anti-viral medications (about 1500) and seem to have found an efficient cocktail, at least in a lab. They asked today the authorization to the state to start human essays on badly affected people, which should not be a problem as all these medications are individually authorized. If the results are effective the world may have a treatment in about a month. The link is in French. Update : the clinical essay on humans will start next week at EU level and will concern 3200 persons badly affected, among them 800 in France.

It is completely true, the link is from a public tv channel. You can look for this lab online, you will see that they work with the Pasteur and Merieux institutes among others.

Development of new antiviral treatments against SARS-CoV2 in collaboration with the Center for Infection & Immunity of Lille (CIIL) and the Institut Pasteur de Lille.

That is a good news ! Before now,I have only known the cocktail treatment that cure the Aids. Here I want to propagate our TCM-the Traditional Chinese Medicine traced back to thousands of years ago -that plays an important role in beating back the Covid-19 this time. This is how we minimize the mortality from the Covid-19.

@topffer Now scientists from all over the world race to find a cure for Covid-19.Many people pin their hopes on the medicine Remdesivir .Not sure if it works. As for TCM,there are many people who still take it with a pinch of salt,I can say nothing but "facts speak louder than eloquence."Take care !

I have understood it much better than being able to speak it thank you very much as my youngest suffers from asthma not so much as before but there a few times when he has problems. He was trying to throw a tantrum yesterday about me being cool and calm so upset me a bit more than the flippin news that is never ending and they have not said anything about a cure here at all as usual they are throwing a Scarlet O´Hara all dramatic you know.

@topffer But the more he dwells on it the worse it can get. I told him we are all at risk whatever age or whatever the condition I told him pneumonia can be far more deadly and yet no one thinks that it can be. He has pneumonia before because he is a fan of going around in short sleeves in this kind of weather where it gets to be very cold after being so warm all day long. I give up as I said other things but he was having none of it he is worried and scared but does not want to admit it. The more I say don´t be so worried the more he will do it. I am so glad that they are finding a cure as I am more fed up with the over saturaion of all this than the virus itself.

@topffer Only too right tops now you are afraid to sneeze, sorry you got bronchitis that is awful as it goes on and on forever so it seems. I told him in no uncertain way do not do what the Spanish do and take a jacket with you always and wear it but I am much afraid he pays no heed come crying later is what it might be. He does like advice very much being the typical son what am I to do and the other one is actually the same as him they see it as "nagging" but I only say it once and don´t repeat it after I am not like the Spànish women that go on and on like las pilas de Duracell lol. He is on the messenger to me trying to give me the Sermon On The Mount stuff and I am having none of it. They are both way too bossy and only see it their way such are the ways of them a long suffering perplexed Mom just like many other millions of us. Don´t you forget to take your jacket either you hear me now?

@lovinangelsinstead21 He is not serious, but I will not throw him a stone. I got a bronchitis last month to have been several hours under a cold rain without an umbrella. Happily it was not the coronavirus, but I coughed during 3 weeks. And happily it has ended, because it is not well seen to cough actually.

That's cool! Both that I understand the French article and that they think the treatment works. I did see news from different research institutions some weeks ago, they said the same, that they thought medication we already have could work. Since then it's been pretty silent on the science front, it probably drowns in toilet-paper-panic.

@topffer The US and the UK are going to get very sick soon. I know they've been saving on the tests here, but yesterday they got two new testing machines from Switzerland in Oslo. Much higher capacity, so I'm guessing once there's more tests available they'll run them at max. It's very different measures for different countries. The Danes are closing their borders, the Swedes aren't really closing anything.

@topffer Yes, we do actually have a lot of medication already so testing it will take some time. I'm hoping they get extra funding now. It's lot of talk here about how to save buisnesses etc, not so much about pouring more money into medical research.

@Torunn Macron has been good on this point, each business can delay the payment of its taxes just by telling it to the tax service. They had to pay this month, so it was important as a first thing to do to help businesses. Have you seen that in USA they are testing only people having symptoms to do savings on the tests ? They are running right to a human disaster if a treatment is not quickly available. I love my country.

I have always appreciated French medicines and I hope this will be a good help to those badly affected. You have good doctors and you have good medications, a lot better than what we have here for many small problems.

@LadyDuck I heard that you had about 1000 nurses and doctors having got the virus. If they had not the right mask here half of them would refuse to work and I would not blame them. If this treatment or another one is not ready quickly, it is the whole planet that will forbid to Americans to travel.

I think we have some of the best searchers, but they lack of money ; however this time they received funds from Merieux to work on this virus, and it is comforting to see that a private lab like Merieux can help public research when the health of the population is at risk. Very different approach than on the other side of the pond, where they do savings on tests by testing only people with symptoms.

@topffer They are doing the most stupid thing, many do not have symptoms for 14 days and they are spreading the virus like jam on toasted bread. The poor Italian doctors received the masks today... not certified and totally wrong, ridiculous! Those were distributed by the "Italian Civil Defence"... if this is the best they have!

I was wondering if any researchers were trying existing viral medications to treat the virus. Now it looks like we have an answer. Hopefully, the anti-viral concoction they have come up with will be effective.

@moffittjc It is also what I think. Our searchers are serious people (look at me) and would not launch a news like this if they were not quite sure that their cocktail would not be efficient on humans.

Oh, it is way too many, Germany does a serious job to contain it, and the number of people contaminated will be nothing compared to USA in 1 month, as you test only peoples having symptoms while they are contagious up to 14 days before... Let's just hope that this treatment or another one will be available as soon as possible.

Oh, now one week later - any new updates? I know a week may be too soon for that . . . but certainly a week earlier in how things were handled here could have made a big difference . This "cocktail" would be more than great if found to be truly effective . . . I just hope it can save people - and ugh time is running out ! Good to hear something hopeful . . . I can't trust words that come from "upstairs" over here.

@topffer I was wondering what was going on with Raoult - I did see that Macron did pay a visit to him. We know orange face was touting about the hydrochloroquine but now I read that he has a financial interest in a hydrochloroquine manufacturer . And yes, I heard about the German vaccine too. Everyday I hear worse and worse things about orange face - can it all get any worse .

That was very smart of them to try a cocktail of known antiviral medications instead of trying to create something entirely new and untested on humans. (Although, some of the antiviral meds on the market today really shouldn't be used on humans, in my opinion!) I don't understand why the US always wants to do things the more difficult and time consuming way all the time... *shake my head*

Yes, but they worked a lot to find people having been in contact with the virus to test and quarantine them if positive. Don't expect that soon in a country like yours testing people only when they have symptoms, while we know that they can be contagious with no symptoms during days before being sick. I hope that this treatment or another one will be available quickly, or you are running at fast speed towards a human disaster.
