The Corona virus finally gets to The Horse.

I have been relatively smug about the Corona virus, listening daily to the numbers, washing my hands more than usual, and dealing closely with more children than adults. But the writing was on the wall, and today I got hit by the corona virus scare, though not (to my knowledge) the virus itself. Our preschool will be closed for two weeks, pending the status of things at the end of the month. I am technically a "part-time" employee there, though I've worked at least 30 hours a day...I mean year...I mean week (heh) for several weeks. I don't think I'll be compensated for the time I lose. Happily, I've saved enough money over the years that I can tolerate a couple of weeks if unemployment without changing my lifestyle. Were you hit by the Corona virus today? I also noticed that the shelves at Trader Joe's were virtually empty this evening, as were the roads, but I'll save that for another post.

We have been hardly hit by the virus from at least two weeks here in Europe. We stay home, I already stocked food, I do not go outside for the moment. All schools and pre-schools are closed here. Kids are a dangerous vehicle of the virus, they do not figure positive, they have no symptoms but they spread the virus.

@LadyDuck new born tested positive? Oh, that is very sad, and it would be so tough to treat that kid. Was the pregnant mother in this case positive too?

I wondered if that could be the case. Just because older adults, and adults with respiratory problems, are the most vulnerable to the virus, does not mean that children cannot be carriers.

@amitkokiladitya It will be interesting to see what happens next week. I haven't read anything about the virus today. It's raining out, and I'm trying to "chill" and not worry about things.

@TheHorse the rules of the lockdown are not very clear as of now. We are still awaiting news if we would not be allowed to go out of the house.

Some of the schools in our general area are on spring break right now and the kids were supposed to go back around the 23rd of March. Now there are some schools staying closed at least until the end of the month.

I believe that no matter who we are, where we are or what we do, all of us, in one way or another are being hit my Corona. That's great that you were able to save. My husband and I do the same. We always try to save for a rainy day. It looks like we're all having a rainy day.

They closed all schools and universities on Thursday, but we're supposed to be teaching from home so I'm going to spend the weekend quarreling with digital teaching platforms. Financially I suppose I'll benefit from it. I'm not going to lose my job any time soon, petrol is cheap, I drive less and most important: I can't buy lunch in the cantina every day. Which is upsetting, 'cause they make better food than I do.

@TheHorse Thanks! I've got 35 minutes left. I've decided to go for the "easier" parts of the subject today, so we can fiddle around with the technology without being to confused by the quantum stuff.

@msdivkar That's not a lot of cases, given the size of the Country. I'm kind of a statistics guy and would like to look at the shape of the curve for infections and deaths day by day. Both will increase for awhile, but I want to know when the "rate of increase" begins to drop.

I had to scramble to write a "Continuing of Operations Plan" in the event our staff gets wiped out by the virus. Seriously. What our plan would be if we lost 10%, 30% and 50% of our workforce due to the virus. No easy task. And our county and city are shutting down almost every event. I had to present a budget impact report of what the city would lose (or save) if I shut down all of our city pools. We've been instructed to shut down any event that has estimated attendance over 500 people. I have a big swim meet this weekend at one of our pools, probably will have about 600 people, I told them to go ahead and run the event. It was supposed to be just a Saturday event, but I added on Sunday so we can spread out the crowd over two days so I can technically say there were less than 500 people each day. Swim teams from all over the state have traveled here for the meet, so I don't want their efforts to be in vain. I also have a big water polo tournament scheduled for next weekend at one pool, and a big synchronized swimming event at another pool. I have a feeling both of those will be cancelled as this panic over the virus continues to get worse.

I think we're down to 100 people per venue here in our County. A music event I usually participate in was cancelled.

Everywhere we go offline or online. Shops or online. This site or others, everyone is talking about NCOVID-19. At times, it makes us mentally stressed. What worries people range from - will economic downturn impact our careers and jobs to probable shortage of things. Sometimes I am thinking that I should think less about it, lest it impacts me more in my mind than actually. Yet fear do persists. And well, those wearing masks permanently outdoors make others more fearful. One Indian state's Chief Minister has rightly advised people from stocking up on and wearing face masks unnecessarily.

I'm just chilling at home and avoiding people, for the most part. When I go out, I see uncrowded roads, empty shelves in the supermarkets, but few people with masks on.

I too work on a hourly basis and paid according to number of hours I work. I am not a full time regular employee there and don't enjoy the benefits of full time employees. So closing down of schools has definitely impacted my earnings. And now they are canceling all summer camps. And my summer camp was a huge hit each year. I earned good in that.

@TheHorse Not actually! You need to have BPL ( below poverty line) card to access certain benefits. For me, by God's grace, we are financially sound. But definitely it's bad for daily wagers. Today I heard in news that state government are planning to give monetary assistance to such people.
