Shortage Fear

Is anyone else worried about this?
I'm on a limited income and I don't get paid until next Friday. With everything going on my biggest fear is that by the time I have the money to get groceries and supplies to have on hand, there's going to be nothing left.
The toll here is still very low, and yet things are already sold out here in the stores. I fear that by next week things like canned goods, meat. and produce are going to be non-existent in stores.
I hope I'm wrong, but I got a distinct feeling that I'm not.

Yes I can’t find toilet paper, my store looked like ghost town. Canned goods gone, cereal gone, baby wipes and water gone. Bread is limited.

It's downright scary, more so than the virus itself.

@CookieMonster46 Hopefully not long, but my brother said he read that they expect the virus to last until 2021 at least. Hopefully though by then it will be under control.

Check what people have left. There are some groceries, like dry legumes, that people don´t take at first. And they are cheap. You can make them with no meat.

@marguicha That's because most people, (and I'm guilty of it too) rely on boxed foods that are easy to prepare these days. Though, if it comes down to it I'll have to do what I can to survive.

I hope it doesn't happen there either. It's scary not knowing whats going to be there when you go. People here are panic buying and not being considerate of others. It's sad.

@Shavkat I know. And, the worst is the poor elderly who really need the supplies won't be able to find any on the shelves.

@indiandevil I went out today. The sad thing is the locals hoarded hygienic supplies.

If it comes to that, I'm going to have no choice. Hopefully, I won't have a problem though.

I don't understand why people are indulging into so much of panic buying

Me either, especially the toilet paper frenzy. That just doesn't really make any sense.

@amitkokiladitya People are scared, and I can't say as I blame them. But, this panic buying is kind of selfish. They aren't thinking about anyone else.

No. I am not. The United States has the ability to replenish stock of most things very quickly. The only thing I fear is that some of this food will spoil before it gets a chance to be used. But we can replenish at a very rapid pace. It actually bodes well for the economy and for many American workers who have to make all of this stuff.

We usually are able to replenish stock quickly too and I can only hope that by the time I go to get my groceries the shelves will be filled again. All I can do is hope and pray at this point.

@porwest This is very true. I was just saying the other day that it still seems like travellers are the ones highly infected, and those that are close to them. But, if one or more of them are not following self-isolation/14 day quarantine then many others are going to get it. I even think those who are displaying symptoms even if they were checked by a doctor but not tested for it, should self isolate.
I know a woman who was told she has a severe bronchial infection, and shes going out and about!

I'm lucky enough to have a good income. My problem is that you can't buy things that aren't available, no matter what your income is. I did my big online shop at the weekend (which is to be delivered next weekend due to lack of delivery slots). Most things were available, although I've had to buy a different brand of milk and toilet roll. The toilet roll is the really cheap stuff but, hopefully, it will do us in an emergency. The milk was a more expensive brand but I am lucky to not have to worry about those few extra pennies. In other circumstances, I'd have really been struggling - I'm not on a massive income now but I've certainly experienced having to struggle to make ends meet. I hope that everyone can manage but I'd already set up a 'Hygiene Hampers' charity fund before this came about. There's not a great deal in it but it's available for anyone who needs cleaning or sanitary products - I just hope I'll be able to get them if anyone is in need.

This is true. Money can only take you so far at a time like this. As you said we can't buy things that aren't available to us. It's going to come to a point where even the food banks are going to be strained.
I just hope that this ends soon so we can all get on with normal living again.

I wouldn't worry too much, new trucks come in all the time. I was just in the store yesterday, and except for the "paper section" everything seemed to be in pretty good supply.

What scares me is that when I say the toll is low, I mean we have 1 confirmed case and 1 probable case. (close relative of the first). Still, my parents were out in the stores yesterday, and things were getting low. Hopefully you are right, and new trucks will come in before next week.

It is an interesting world we live in these days. Hopefully, things get better for all countries that are affected. This is getting horrible.

@indiandevil That would make sense because otherwise, some people would have to go without.

They keep saying not to worry but the shelves are empty already at my local grocery store. It's getting so scary. This panic buying/hoarding is so selfish.

@Moon24 I planned on buying a little more of some things that I normally wouldn't. But, not more than I'd need. However, the way things are going I'll be lucky to be able to get anything by Friday.

@indiandevil It is very selfish. I still don't buy more than usually because i don't think we can stay without food.
