Filipino Taste Buds are FUNNY

Spaghetti

I never knew Spaghetti was a dessert until last month when my co-worker said that. Filipinos love their Spaghetti sweet. And not just a bit of sugar but very sweet. And not just Spaghetti but anything that's got pasta in it! My wife and I went to a nearby restaurant that's known for their "Halo-halo", a Filipino dessert. We ordered their Spaghetti, Carbonara and French fries for lunch and halo-halo. We thought it would be a mix of flavours. But then, everything tasted sweet. The Spaghetti was sweet. The Carbonara was sweet. And, the French Fries with cheese was surprisingly sweet. Not to mention the dessert. We spent our afternoon with a sugar rush. _________________ Photo credit: Pixabay License Free for commercial use No attribution required

Good that you did not have a drink.

@Dextoi No i was just thinking how odd it would have been to take a drink and have a sweet meal on it.

Good to try a new dish. Amazing to see that different cultures have different ways to cook the same dish.

Either in a constructive or destructive way. lol. I still prefer the rustic Italian way of cooking.

@Dextoi And I don't think sweet spaghetti would make up for an authentic spaghetti taste for Italians. Reserve it for the Filipinos and children who loves it sweet and with hot dogs too.

@pitsipeahie Hahaha! The hotdogs!! If there's a video of an Italian trying out Filipino-style Spaghetti, I'd like to see it... if there are none, they've got to make one... But still, it amazes me to see young people (and children, too) enjoying authentic spaghetti.

I haven't yet learned how to appreciate Filipino food. I hadn't experienced the sweet thing, though.

That's very different. I don't think I've ever had sweet pasta.

I mean, I always add SOME sugar to my sauce to counter some of the acidity of it. But sweet? I don't know if I would like that.

I would like to believe that the Spaghetti doesn't taste like you're halo-halo. Is it? I understand that Filipino make foreign dishes with a twist to suit their taste so do not expect that you will eat them like the authentic.

Sure enough, their spaghetti isn't as sweet as their halo-halo. lol Yes, we do like to add a twist to how we cook food. Some in a good way but mostly in a bad way. Sorry for that. And the innocent Pan de Sal (bread with salt), which they made a lot of trippy varieties like purple yam, purple yam with cheese, chocolate and bavarian...

Wow, that's interesting! I guess if they enjoy savoury food sweet, why not? But I personally prefer savoury pasta, Carbonara and fries
