The Challenges Of Van Living During This Crises

It's been a few weeks since I've checked in. This pandemic has had my anxiety at an all time high. We are safe since we live in our van and camp on free land away from people. We are still in Arizona where we have been camping all winter. We were suppose to start heading East in April but now not sure when we will leave the state or where we can go. Many states are closing their borders and many campgrounds and free lands are closing down to campers. We are struggling just to find our basic needs... especially paper towels which we use for everything. And affordable food that we normally buy are always out. Thankfully we found a food bank that helped. So for now we will remain in Arizona since many if the free lands are still open to campers, but we may just head a little north from where we are because temps in southern Arizona will be hitting the 90's this week and we have no air conditioning or shade for our van. One of my nomad friends lucked out. She has a good friend in New Mexico with plenty of land and is allowing her to stay on her land. That is the best situation for any nomad during this time. Most of us are over 50 with some health issues so we really need to stay away from others as much as possible. How is everyone doing during these challenging times?

Caravanners and campers here are finding it harder to find a place to stay. Caravan parks are closing and towns are not welcoming travellers. I hope you manage to get what you need and that you stay safe.

It is getting harder but I'm grateful that so far most blm lands and national forests here in Arizona are still open. It just sucks that I msy not be abke to visit my sons until the fall. Since they live in very hot and humid states, I wanted to visit during the spring before it got too hot. Looks like it's going to be a fall visit instead.

I hadn't thought of campgrounds being closed. I'm glad you found a food bank, and I can understand your anxiety. I wish I had some helpful suggestions.

Thanks! We never expected these things to happen to this extent either. There is even talk that Truckstops sill close to overnight parking for everyone except Truckers. We depend on Truckstops and Walmart parking lots for resting overnight when we are heading to a destination. If the Truckstops and Walmart close to overnight parking, we are not sure when we will be able to travel.

We are staying at home. We are also over 50, have medical restrictions and on high alert. My mother is also living with us now. She has ALZ so we are being super careful here.
