As some of you probably know by now, folk/country musician John Prine is in critical condition with Covid 19, the Coronavirus.
He has been my musical inspiration since I was 14-years-old and first heard his music. His "Angel From Montgomery" was made famous by Bonnie Raitt, but his raspy voice and dark sense of humor make his own solo performances (and albums) a delight.
He's a "young old guy," at 73, but has had throat and respiratory issues, making him vulnerable to the disease. His song, Paradise is one of my own "signature" songs.
I'll attach one of his most recent songs. I challenge you to listen to and watch this without wiping away a tear.
No life is worth more than any other life. We're all in this thing together. But I hope you'll send your thoughts and prayers to my "main man," John Prine.

@TheHorse It's okay man. Even the strongest cry every now and then. Hang in there. We're going through some pretty unprecedented times.

I pray for his well being. Those with other ailments are more vulnerable to this infection.

@sallypup Heh. My voice is "smoother" than his. But nobody does John Prine better than John Prine. I'm praying for him hard.

@TheHorse — I told a friend on Facebook that we’ll take any glimmer of perceived good news that we can at this point.

Compared to John Prine, Bob Dylan is a pretender. I love John Prime and all his work that I know. IMO Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore, still applies. Sam Stone, is a beautiful and tragic song. Hello in there is a song that if you follow the message, will make you a better person. In spite Of Ouselves is one of the funniest, and most tender love songs ever written. I'm praying for John Prine.

@jprtist Heh. I think we watched the same interview (or live performance). When I was a young sprout, in Chicago, my older step-brother was roommates with a man named Ed Holstein. He may have been a bartender at The Earl of Old Town, one of the places where Prine played in his early days. One of Ed's songs, Jazzman, wound up on the same Pure Prairie League album as Aimee (did I spell that right?), a huge hit. Ed told me over dinner in Chicago several years ago that he still gets royaly checks for like $1.57 every month from that song/album. My older step-brother turned me on to John Prine when I was about 14, and I have several of the songs from his early albums memorized. I am amazed by how prolific people like John Prine, Greg Brown, and James McMurtry can be.

@TheHorse I'll follow the link when I listen to music next.
Prine was a mailman in Chicago when his music career for started. He got a job playing in a coffee house in weekends. He thought if he were going to make any sort of impact, he'd have to have new music each weekend. I don't know the order, but he wrote Hello In There, based on the old lonely elderly folks he'd see on his route. He wrote Sam Stone, Flag Decal, and other songs each week for his show. He was gaining fame. People were amazed at how prolific his writing was. He told them he thought he had to have a new song each weekend. The other musicians said nobody can keep that up. He said he was relieved and slowed down, then in hindsight, he realized he wished nobody had ever told him that he didn't have to have a new song each week. He's never been as prolific since. Still he's written many other unique songs through the years. I don't think anybody can ever compare to him.

With very mixed emotions. My brother's favorite as well. It's all just so confusing.
