Making my own disinfectant using ordinary bleach, pandemic preparedness# 3

Yesterday somebody posted about Lysol aerosol spray being hard to find. You see folks I make my own cheap disinfectant spray using good old unscented bleach or what we Filipinos call Chlorox by simply diluting 5 tablespoons bleach to a gallon of water, of course you can make a stronger solution by adding more bleach depending on your preference. Afterwards I put it in a spray bottle used for plants or in the beauty salon or use it to mop. The advantages of bleach is that it's cheap, easy to find and you could make large quantities to cover larger areas without breaking the bank. The downside is expiration date is not very long Before starting to make your own solution take note : do not mix bleach with vinegar it would give off chlorine gas, do not mix with ammonia it would produce a deadly gas called chloramine, lastly do not mix with alcohol it would form chloroform, that stuff you see in movies that they put on hankies to knock people down. I wrote about this to inform what I do to disinfect but I won't be responsible if you mishandle it and does harm How do you disinfect your surroundings? Could you teach me or give me a tip that I do not know? Picture is what I actually use now, the Conquestador figure seems to be telling us to " be safe everyone"

I admire your practicality. I also make my own insecticide using vinegar.

@Alexandoy @yoalldudes when it comes to plants I use dishwashing soap or liquid, I just saw it on YouTube. Being practical will give us more money to buy other essential things.

@louievill yes, I agree that we can save money by the DIY but not in Youtube. I prefer to learn from people that I know. dish washing liquid can ruin the plants.

Good so long as they are still available. One advantage of cheap homemade is savings could be channeled to buy other essentials like food and medicine in case of a prolonged lockdown.

What we have is lysol aerosol spray, quite expensive compared to homemade and is not very effective when used outdoor, the mist is too fine. Glad you have wipes.

I try to avoid bleach as much as possible and only use it on moldy laundry. But I guess a weak bleach solution would be safe, not to mention cheap.

Drinking water and swimming pools are chlorinated, we have a 3 stage filter to take out chlorine for cooking water ( we drink mineral water) and we use plain tap now which is chlorinated to wash fruits and vegetables

My househelp mixed zonrox with water with soap. I hope it is okay, I was shocked to see that if mixed with other substance it can produce such stuff. You are very knowledgeable I must say.

I had taken up many Chemistry subject units. My elder sister is chemistry masters and a chemical engineer who graduated from U.P., she retired a scientist. I'm not sure how soap reacts with bleach but it would be safer to apply them separately I guess.

@louievill I think it's okay because it's being done during laundry anyways. Where did you take Chemistry units, they sound interesting.

This is a really easy, practical solution if you can't buy the regular stuff. Thanks for the reminder that we can make our own.
