My first attempt at chickpea veggie burgers

Happy Friday all! I had been meaning to try this chickpea veggie burger recipe for a while, but I needed the food processor to do so. I made veggie burgers using this simple recipe - chickpeas, cilantro, some oil, a few tablespoons of flour, and some seasonings. Then, I rolled them into a ball, squashed them, froze them for 30 minutes, fried them on each side for 5 mins, and then baked them for an additional 20 mins. BUT when I took them out of the freezer, they were falling apart like crazy. This is my biggest pet peeve with trying to make a veggie burger, especially a VEGAN one. Need a binding agent! Because they were so crumbly I ended up essentially cracking an egg over them to get some degree of “binding”. But on a bun with some cheese, ketchup and sriracha mayo... This was fantastic! Do you have any good veggie burger recipes? Or have you tried any new recipes lately?

@maezee Not that I know. But you can also add a bit of bread crumbs and milk.

Ah, great! It FEELS good to eat plant-based, from my experience, although this veggie burger required an egg, which isn't totally plant based. I will try again for a 100% vegan burger.

Yes, mostly! And it was just something different...I wish they would have binded without the egg, but that will be a project for another day. Have you ever had a veggie burger? They are good!

I had that happen once with a homemade black bean burgers. I didn't remove all the water, and they wouldn't hold together for anything! Tasted OK, but definitely not a burger.

Talking about veggie burgers, I automatically think of hash browns, don't know why . Perhaps because I love hash browns. (It is a cold day here with the wind howling outside... I am thinking of something hot like a bowl of soup, with some hash browns next to it!)

Cool! I never thought about hashbrowns being part of veggie burgers. It seems like most of them are made from beans or ground up veggies, but that would be interesting....I do love my potatoes too though!!
