Had our roof vent exhaust replaced this morning

The heat is killing me, our roof air vent stopped working despite my greasing it and hot air trapped between the roof and ceiling makes our ACs work extra hard and would surely make the power bill go up. I had previously bought a new lighter one made from aluminum and asked my former driver " Dodong " who is now a free lance contractor to make it for me, good thing he has a work pass. How hot is it in your place? Summer heat could already be felt in our country , Picture of " Dodong" fixing the vent was taken by me while overseeing the work being done.

Not as hot as last year probably because there are fewer motor vehicles running. New cases seem to had lessened and some experts here predict that a 2 week quarantine extension would somewhat flatten the curve already.

Not warm at all, waiting for 110 degree weather to kill this virus but say does not mater. Its actually cold but gorgeous This actually feels like a spring storm and clouds with the mountains. No good cannot get out to enjoy it. I will punch virus in face, screwing with my weather.

It's around 33 degrees celsius here or 91 Fahrenheit. Hope it's enough to fry the virus no need to punch it when we can fry it

It's one of those things that must be done although I would not really want to spend on repairs right now because business is not moving. I like it when you say " dog days " I have not heard that for a long time, you really got good education on the English language.

Its quite hot especially in the afternoon. I got my electric fan here so that it will be more money saving for me. We only turn on the AC during night when we slept. Other times we wont but u know today is summer so it will be hot as expected.

I need to cut down on bills since the lock down is preventing me from making money, good thing I have an emergency fund and savings plus I stocked up on supplies. We were not charged this month but just the same it would double next month the air vents are only wind driven and it helps get hot air out of the ceiling being sucked by our ceiling exhaust fans from the house.

@jvincent_129 it had been working well with us for many many years, the green one in the picture is the old heavy cranky one that I replaced with the newer , smaller but faster aluminum model, just a small gust of wind and it turns very fast.

@louievill If that works well. Then we wont be turning on AC as much. Good luck with that

Millions of people in the Visayas are called " Dodong ". His real name is Romy No , I would not put anything up there that would consume more electricity, would defeat the purpose of saving by cooling the house and making AC work less. Hot air from the ceiling and wind breeze from the outside would cause it to spin endlessly day and night without electricity.

@hereandthere it's very light but sturdy, just a light breeze would propel it to rotate day and night once it has the momentum, the green one in the picture is the old, heavy cranky one that I replaced.

@louievill so it's like a windmill. but in summer when there's not enough breeze, how does it help?

It's proven, it's a smaller version of ones used in factories, also gets odor out cause it works together with our ceiling exhaust fans. ( 2 baths, living room and kitchen) The green big cranky one on the picture is what I replaced, been using it for years.

@JudyEv tried to make the old one work by myself, opened it up, greased it, rotated it with my hands to no avail it's battered. Didn't like the idea of spending at this time but it was time to get the new one and ask for professional help.

That's good your roof air vent is fixed. In these few days the weather gets cold here because of the rain. Perhaps it is around 15-18 degrees here. Since it is the Qing Ming Festival here, so we had days off work from Saturday to Monday. The bad weather didn't affect us since we stayed at home.

That’s wonderful you were able to get that done. We don’t have vents like that on my house.

The house did not come built in with it, I had a section of the roof cut to insert the duct ( comes with the blades) where the blade assembly would sit then we had to water proof everything with silicone sealant

That's his responsibility. Maintenance is one obligation we cannot neglect being property owners, neglect would result to expensive repairs. Are you on lockdown? Most places here on lockdown are exempt from paying rent this month. You and your son take care

The old one is heavy , bulky and cranky ( the green one in the picture) and it had probably sustained damage from so many strong typhoons. I opened it, greased it and it's the same. Our place is also not as windy anymore as back in the day. The new smaller one is light high speed aluminum. Is it also hot in Australia right now?

Is there a space between your ceiling and your roof, I mean a false ceiling.

Our ceilings have exhaust fans, 2 for each bathroom, 1 in the living room and one in the kitchen, the air driven exhaust vent sucks out air between the ceiling and the roof that is air from the house as well as hot air in between the ceiling and roof caused by the hot metal sheet roofing.

I am glad he could come and fix your vent. We still need to heat the house here, no hot weather before the end of May.
