MISNOMER FACT: "Hot Water Inhalation" kills CORONAVIRUS 100%?!?

April 8, 2020 7:55pm CST
I woke up in the morning and checked my FB account. As I browse all the messages, a particular post caught my attention in FB Group. One of my high school batchmates posted a link that 'hot water inhalation' can kill COVID-19 100%. As a concerned citizen in the world, I responded that there's still no cure for this type of virus yet. I thought it's a promising one since it was tagged and claimed by a Chinese expert. "Any updates about the possible cure of COVID-19?" "What would be your reaction when reading this kind of news?" Image Credit: static.euronews.com

I agree. I hope my batchmate will not be offended. But I need to call her attention to this matter.

@JudyEv I can feel you, my friend. You don't need to be apologetic. It's also my first reaction when I say her posted link.

@Shavkat I'm sorry I sounded rude but people believe all sorts of things without checking their facts first.

There are many kinds of rumors about the treatment or cure for the coronavirus. So today when I see a "cure" about it, I will just leave it alone because it won't be true. So far we have to depend on our immune system and hopefully we are stronger so that the symptoms can be mild if being infected. And of course do the precautions to avoid it at first.

@Shavkat As I said, rumors are available everyday and it is the same for vaccines. I think the doctors are making vaccines but it is still a long term to succeed it in my opinion. And I told you all we are doing now is no gathering, staying at home and not going out if it is not necessary. Washing hands and wearing mask to go out. We will be taken the temperature in public places like malls, bus, subway etc. I really don't know a medical advice to deal with this virus. If we had it, there wouldn't be so many deaths.

@youless I am sure that they had given medical advisory from your Ministry of Health in China. Basically, the things you had mentioned were advised by them. Am I right?

Would you like to share some medical advice about NCOV in China? I haven't heard any news from your country about how they deal with this virus. Are they developing any vaccines and the like now?

It is just speculation. I do agree that water steam inhalation can help loosen the phlegm.

@Shavkat Well, at least I don't think it'll hurt. All I know is that breathing in hot steam relieves congestion.

@caopaopao Indeed, it is also related to nasal congestion.

That is what people claimed. Drinking hot tea like ginger tea will help remove the virus in the mouth. According to what I read, the virus will be pushed to the stomach instead of going to the respiratory track to the lungs. Check out doc Willie Ong comment about it.

Coronavirus is airborne. It can be possible to impose self-quarantine in drinking hot tea. But then, there is no cure yet. The respiratory system is different from digestive system.

@Shavkat I understand, but according to what I have read, instead of going to the respiratory system, the virus is pushed out to the stomach which I don't even agree. The virus targets respiratory track.

Some weeks ago, I was told that washing surface of things with hot water from tap (about 65 degrees C) should do the job fine (in killing Covid-19). Recent news seem to not say so, so I am a bit confused. (I just do my best really, in cleaning and disinfecting things.)

@Shavkat At least after this health crisis, many bosses will agree to let their staff work at home. (So are many schools and educational institutions.)

@Shavkat First, the so called "steam inhalation" must never use water hotter than 42º Celsius, this DOES NOT kill the virus, because it can live in a body with that temperature. Hot water can cause serious damages if inhaled, some people should be banned from the Internet.

You already have many responses saying this is not a cure. so I'll limit my statement that you probably should send a message to FB about the post so that it can be removed.

Sadly there are less intelligent people using the internet and believing everything they read. This is definitely stupid fake and dangerous and I would probably report it to facebook before someone seriously hurts themselves!

Spreading unproven scientific information on social media like FB is dangerous because it makes some people don’t follow and ignore current preventive measures. ????????

To my understanding there isn't a cure as yet but what I do know to help get rid of the virus when detected early it's drinking hot water with lemon and garlic or with vinegar. Do this regularly to and gargle a couple of times daily, this will intern push the virus to your tummy where the acidic structure in your stomach will kill the virus. This is if early detected and can be done at home but should this not work consult medical attention. We should take this lightly for it kills and will affect those around you if not protected. So reading unfounded posts by people who are spreading wrong info could harm others who will take that info serious while it doesn't work.

It is highly unlikely that it kills the virus, but it helps the lungs. I recently got recomended inhalations by a doctor, I was having shortness of breath (not because of the virus, I wanted to quit smoking)

I'm aware that it is good for the human's lungs. It can help to loosen up the phlegm. I guess you need to quit smoking then. Are you planning to do it this year? By the way, welcome to myLot.
