I heard a knock on the gate and when my wife opened it somebody handed her something and the man went away quickly. Upon inspection we were so surprised that it was 1 whole chicken(in the picture) I thought that it was something from the local government but upon inspection I found out that it was from our Homeowners Association.
Our government has not given us any help, people living in gated communites has not recieved any only less fortunate people in depressed communities get some assistance. By God's grace I don't really need some assistance yet even with the extended lockdown cause I'm prepared but hey, a chicken is a chicken and it's such a blessing especially when it's free, gonna make arroz caldo ( chicken porridge) tonight to boost my immunity lol
Lotters on lockdown had you recieved anything from your government? To my fellow Filipinos had you recieved any assistance from your Mayors, barangays?
Thanks for reading, Happy Easter and have a safe and pleasant day

I don't really expect anything from the government at this point.
And to think the barangay captain lives down the street. But, oh well, I guess there are more who are in greater need than us...
A few days ago, a neighbor (a household consisting of 2 senior citizens) asked for help with transportation. But as it is, my father is also a senior citizen and as much as possible, I don't want him driving people around anywhere during this quarantine... (I hope that's not me being too selfish...)
They actually supposedly had a helper who is the one who had a quarantine pass for them, but that helper texted that morning to say she was not going to work (neighbor's house) that day because she had her own family matters to attend to, and the province has just been placed under stricter lockdown.
I did the next best thing I could do and looked for someone who can coordinate assistance for these 2 senior neighbors (I got them in contact with the chairman who said they'd coordinate to have an ambulance pick them up and assist them with their need to go to the bank, etc.)
While I was there, they mentioned that they really wanted to go to the bank to withdraw some money and buy some food because they didn't know if there will be a second wave. And I was surprised because I didn't even know there was a first wave. They were equally surprised when they found out we didn't get anything. I just thought maybe our house was passed over because we had a small sari-sari store. Oh well. That's life. It's fine.

You were not selfish, I think we also have guidelines regarding number of people inside cars.
It's a good thing you were able to refer those seniors. Yes living on this country , I had come to a point where I had realized that to survive we need to learn to stand up on our own 2 feet, if government has something to give , thank you, if none then fine. I know how our system sucks being a former kagawad myself
I hope you do not find it difficult to resupply your sari-sari store.

@moirai wow that's a lot of work and a lot to be done but I'm glad that you and the system works with clockwork precision. Perhaps a bicycle with a sidecar on standby would also come in handy.
We get good results when we teamwork with family members. Careful and stay safe with your business, more and more people are getting hungry. Are you in Metro Manila like me? If they ease the lockdown Metro Manila would probably be left out

I don't need anything either, I had learned a long time ago not to rely or be dependent on government. What I hate is when by right we are entitled to something and the thought of someone corrupt up there is holding it for himself and worst thinking of reselling it.
I also don't like the discrimination that just because we are on gated communities they presume nobody needs it, they should give it to us and I want to decide to whom to give my share to.
The chicken came from our homeowners association and not from the government. We pay our yearly dues to our association for things like security and car stickers but just the same it was very thoughtful of them, yes I enjoyed the free chicken very much.

Yes nice we recieved chicken but it's from our homeowners association, no help from our government, they think just because we are inside a gated community everybody is rich all the help goes to the poor communities and these are the people who do not pay taxes.

I'm a prepper I don't really need help from the government or from anybody right now what I do not like is the idea that there's something for every one but someone up there is keeping it for himself and not distributing it or worst reselling the stuff the chicken was good , our homeowners association was faster to give something than the local government that up to now has not done anything for people in the more affluent part of their jurisdiction but pouring everything on the vote rich depressed areas.

@louievill You are smart to be prepared. I agree. The greed of people is sad to see. I see here great stories of people helping each other, but also people hoarding, and some people just being mean (slashing the tires of drs and nurses, licking/coughing on groceries).... these times bring out the best, or worst of people so it seems

We did received our share lately, but there are words that people assigned to distribute the goods are hoarding some of the food items.

What did they give you? You mean those assigned to distribute are cutting and keeping it for themselves? At least you still got something.

@Mamerto32 a week free rice supply is something to be thankful for but as long as we have people like you mentioned we will never have progress.

@louievill actually we got a week supply of rice and canned goods. But we keep noticing that the people in charge seems to be having more supplies than us. In fact our neighbor, the once assigned for the distribution was seen bagging more rice in their house.

I think some barangays are able to give their relief goods but i think it does not find its way to the middle class because they are helping the lower privileged. Im impressed by that they were able to give a whole chicken there. I got my relief goods it arrived 3 weeks after. I got sardines, rice, egg, noodles and meat loaf.

The Chicken came from our homeowner's association, we pay quite a sum yearly for car stickers , road signs, pool and club house maintenance etc... No help from the Barangay, I read in one FB page a guy calling the Captain " Kupitan" ( someone who makes cuts or steals)

Most of us are still waiting for the stimulus money--supposed to come this week.
We can and do get a lot of food from local organizations!
By the way I read a lot of YOUR comments about people who don't pay taxes and those who do--I hope you are never in a position where you don't have to pay taxes because 1) you are out of a job or 2) don't make enough money to pay taxes. But anyone can be without a job and/or homeless in their lifetimes. I know I have been very successful AND have been homeless and like me your attitude would change. You may not need a chicken today but you never know about tomorrow how much you plan!!
About government abuse is another story.

Trust me I know what I'm saying , our squatter or informal settler problem is an entirely different problem to your homelessness that started during the housing bubble of 07-08. Our problem is much more complex, Mylot page wont be enough for me to explain to you everything in detail, you will have to live here to understand what I'm talking about.
I was once a young and idealistic elected government official, I held various positions in different civic organizations that catered to the needs of the needy. I had seen it all, I had seen the futility. Government abuse cannot be separated from these people, they allow themselves to be used and abused and they use politicians, it's a vicious cycle.
There are a lot of good people among them in fact I believe that all people started as good and there is good in all but they simply get sucked into the system and most voluntarily. Pardon me if from time to time you read my murmuring and rumblings but it's very difficult to understand a system or a society that you are not a part of, you just need to trust me or just take it with a grain of salt.

They think that just because people are living in subdivisions is they don't need help, some are only care takers lol. Comments on facebook pages of cities and barangays are getting funnier as this drags on. They think you have lots of food because it's commercial

Apparently those who pay the taxes with their hard earn pay are not so eligible to get help from the gov't. There had been some relief packs being given but for some reasons our house got skipped.
Let's just be thankful that we're still able to eat without relying to them.

Yes , I'm a businessman and 10% of my biz permit goes to our barangay but people who do not pay taxes reap much of the benefits. I'm a practical prepper, I do not rely on Government, giving our full trust on them I believe is disastrous although I once served as elected kagawad. I hope skipping you was not deliberate because you have a big house
