I used to be so afraid when my Mom would say, " Wait until your Father gets home". It usually meant we had done something really bad. As I got older, it didn't happen that much because I knew how to not get caught...lol.
I have always been sensitive and emotional. I could get scolded and I would be just as upset as I would if I got a spanking. With my father, it seemed like it was hit or miss on whether we were talked to or we got a spanking. He was somewhat of a softie when it came to us girls. Most of the time I was scolded and grounded.
When I became a Mom, I said I would never do that to my children or their father and I didn't. I always took care of their punishment myself if their father was at work. Did either of your parents do that to you?

Now being an adult, it wasn't right to put all of this on our fathers. I can see if something was serious enough that the mother and father had to talk about it. But I don't think it's right to make the father the heavy. I'm sure he wanted to be loved by his children and not feared.

@Courtlynn That's great that you were the best kids. It makes it so much easier for parents.

No, my mom took care of discipline things right then and there. To me, wait till your father gets home was a cartoon.

I most got lectured by my late parents when I stepped out of bounds with their rules of behavior.
