my dad (52) had three mini strokes like a month ago and since then he can't control his blood pressure.
he's always been careful about what kind of food he eats and he is also active, he goes out to take a walk, if nothing else.
he quit smoking a long time ago and he even stopped drinking.
his doctor told him to check his blood pressure almost every two hours and he also drinks pills to control it, but almost every night when he goes to sleep he doesn't feel good and when he checks his blood pressure it's way too high. the only thing that helps him is walking around the house until he feels better.
i thought it's because the pillow is too low or something, but he says that sometimes he falls asleep just fine.
i hope that he will be fine, but of course i'm worried about him and i want to help. do you have any tips to control blood pressure?

It looks like his medication is not working for him so maybe you should consult another doctor.

@aureategloom my wife has high blood pressure that she monitors the reading every morning. When it is not normal, she goes for a consultation and the dosage of her maintenance medication is temporarily increased.

@Alexandoy his blood pressure is fine in the morning, during the day, after coffee, after lunch, but it gets high when he goes to bed. he said that he's going to see his doctor soon.

Stress reduce stress factors that cause his stress level to go up. Also eating heather I’d he isn’t already. Cut things like high fats, high sugars that isn’t natural sugar of course. Try not having fast foods. Daily exercise.

@aureategloom you’d have to ask a doctor. There are endless things for why a BP can be high. Stress is one but isn’t always the cause. diet, past history, even past family members there could be someone with in the family with underline heart condition and problems. Some times it can be other conditions like sleep disorder or other illnesses.

@ShyBear88 well my grandpa also had problems and that's why my dad is being careful about food he eats, being active and everything else. he also did all these tests (i don't know how to say it in english, sorry) to check his heart and blood vessels, brain MRI and everything and all of them are good and there's nothing to worry, but still his BP is high at night.

Drinking water and keeping yourself hydrated may help, this is besides eating healthy foods you mentioned.

he started drinking more water since that happened, he's doing everything that helps him to control it, but he can't do anything at night.

our medical magazine said that for high blood groups it would be better keep a salt limit under 6 grams a day.

Last Sunday, I have to rush my mother to the ER. Her blood pressure shoot up to 180/?. (can't remember the diastolic number) She was immediately given a fast acting blood pressure lowering pill. The next day she has to undergo lab test and on the third day she had a telemedicine consultation with her doctor. Now she was placed on high blood pressure meds and some of her diabetes medications were adjusted. I constantly monitor her blood pressure everyday and her blood sugar levels too. She was told to avoid fried and oily foods, to stay hydrated, avoid stress and too much movement. Your father is still young, my mother is already 75. May be your father needs to see the doctor again and tell them your observation that his blood pressure shoots up only at night. May be somewhere his meds needs adjustment. Hope he gets well soon.

@aureategloom That's how it is with them. Their meds keeps on being adjusted until they get the proper dose that controls and maintains their blood pressure. My mother is fine now. Thanks.
