ecq extension kinda expected

Philippines
April 23, 2020 9:44pm CST
it was just announced that the Enhanced Community Quarantine for the National Capital Region and other areas will be extended to may 15 (it started march 15). i guess i was sort of expecting it given how densely populated ncr is. however, the continued transportation ban and stoppage of work and industry cannot be good. it will make it harder and harder for everyone to start over. some might not even have jobs to go back to. so the alcohol and bleach will stay in the garage for sanitizing ourselves and any stuff before coming in. however, wearing a mask is still not yet automatic for me. and i still say lockdown, not ecq.

@hereandthere With the schedule of going to the market and the curfew, yes. They are quite strict. But when it comes to the quarantine pass, they just check the barangay. We only had one day per week to buy our food and other essential items but that was changed just a few days ago. We have a new sched and we will have two days per week now, and longer time to buy, 6 to 5 pm while before it's 7 to 3. With the quarantine pass, I said they were not that strict because what I brought with me was my mother's quarantine pass(she's a senior citizen so she's not allowed to go out, and when I was asking for my own, the barangay workers said they don't have signed quarantine passes because our barangay captain was also under quarantine because he's a PUI, WHOA). The first time I went to the market, they didn't check it. The next time, they just checked the barangay but not the name and ID. But I heard there were times when they also check IDs. But last Wednesday, I already asked for my own quarantine pass because our provincial government announced that they will no longer give warning to those who will violate. They will just arrest violators. I am afraid I will be arrested.

@brokenbee other mylotters from other places around and outside ncr have also said they have assigned marketing days. i'm glad we don't have that yet so we can still go any time, any day to the wet market and supermarket, but have to line up, wear masks and have our id.

Just heard the news and I also was not surprised anymore since as I update myself with the news it seems like the cases are still on the rise although they said that the coming of new cases are starting to show slowing down but medical experts are saying that it has just started to it’s not a good basis to decide to stop the quarantine yet.

i think it was the leaked memo from/about the military and moving the opening of classes to august that made me doubt it will end soon

@hereandthere That is another aide of the news that spread. It seems like the government is trying to covwr it up as fake news and did not admit to that leaked paper as an official one. There were also reports about the education department releasing of school calendar was said to be fake too since it was not written in the official logo of the department. Fake news is just so rampant these days.

It is May 15th here as well, but I expect it to be extended for sure. My friend in Manila (the "Vegas" part of the Phils, he says) told me this morning that it was announced that it would not extended it beyond May 15th - is that true?

@hereandthere He did mention the guidelines - and said some things may differ depending on the province. His business may suffer as it is not "essential". Is transportation up and running regularly? Many people here rely on public transportation too - but I'm not sure what changes have been made.

@much2say in our area no because we're still under ecq (enhanced community quarantine). in areas changed to gcg (general community quarantine), public transportation will only be half-full.

i'm also more used to 'lockdown' than 'ecq'.. wearing a face mask is now a national policy. we've got cctv cameras here to monitor residents who do not wear a mask when they go out. i'm happy to know hardwares will reopen may 1st. at least we'll be able to have our roofs prepped for the rainy season.

your community is serious about its obligations. i forget because i'm not the one with the qpass so i go out less often. however, i'm the one who answers the doorbell so i just make sure i maintain my distance and sanitize my hands before going back inside.

Here, where I live, they will open up places like hair salons and barbers on May first, by appointment only, and everyone still has to work a small distance from each other. If all goes well, in a few weeks they will open churches after that. They told high risk patients to still stay at home, and people should wear masks. I'm excited to see things open because people are hurting for money to pay bills.

here, many are eager to go to salons because it's summer so short hair will really help. i think each business will have to come up with a detailed plan from how customers are received, served and mode of payment

@hereandthere that's also my concern here, the informal settlers colonies in our Barangay are getting more and more restless, so homeowner subdivisions are closing down and guarding their private roads, people would be trapped inside their enclaves with no food, money and jobs.

it's easier for people like us, and i'm glad i live in an area where everything is walking distance. but for the majority, the daily wage earners (some not even daily) and those stuck at their worksite, in their dorms, etc it might send them over the edge.

I have also sadly expected it since it's already reaching 7000 positive cases. People need to obey the quarantine rules or more will get infected. I hated these people who just doesn't simply take the problem seriously.
