Not My Visitor

I was looking towards to a quiet Saturday last weekend when our front door was banged repeatedly and loudly at about 1:30PM. Through the opaque glass of the front door, I could see a muscled 40ish, army hairstyle guy, in dark short sleeve T-shirt and Jeans. He would stop banging at my front door for a bit, then continued while slurping down his beer can.
He looked up to our second floor with a puzzle look a few times, then continued banging on our the front door again. That dark blond guy walked back to his car, about to drive away, then thought again - then back to our front door for another round of banging. He then suddenly disappeared, only to reappear in the backyard of my Chinese neighbor, who can't speak any English.
From the second floor, I discretely watched that stranger talking loudly to someone there in that house and began to feel worried for my gentle Beijing neighbor. In my simple mind, the stranger was pretending to be friendly, but perhaps was about to murder the 60ish Chinese lady any time then.
I promptly contacted another Chinese neighbor on my street, asking her to please urgently contact her fellow countrywoman.
By 2:30, the stranger drove away. I thought of my poor neighbor, perhaps by then, was lying in a pool of her own blood... (useless to call police in this case, they wouldn't come that fast to help anyone.)
While I was lamenting for my gentle Chinese lady neighbor (she often gave me peaches and nectarines from her garden!!!), I suddenly heard some car doors banging again. That stranger was back, and the odd thing was, he was sitting there in his car - waiting. A few minutes later, a tall muscled 40ish Chinese man with similar short hairstyle (who often did the lawn for my Chinese neighbor) came out, giving him a coil of thick rope.
I felt such a relief, suddenly realizing that my Chinese neighbor must have rented her place out finally to that younger Chinese guy. (I heard she had bought another property some blocks away, which would be more suitable for her dog sitting business.)
Would you open your front door to any stranger who looks a bit threatening to you?

You had me on pins and needles wondering if she was ok. I am relieved that she is. I check to see who knocks on my door and if I do not know them do not answer to them. These days I do not answer to anyone unless I know they are coming here.l

That is a thought. I have wondered about things like that before too. I take it you have not seen her. It is hard to know who knocks at your door if they are nice or not. I just do not want to answer it and especially now because of the virus. If I am expecting someone that is different. Maybe you need to do your own investigating so they do not see you on if she is alive or not.

I was very naive in the past, always opening doors to anyone who knocked at my door. I learned from experience that nothing good ever come from doing that (the univinted always come for some bad intention!).
Just to continue with the above story, have you ever thought that that coil of rope was used to kill that Chinese lady? (I have no clue if she is still alive seriously. For all I know, that aggressive Chinese young guy might have killed her ages ago to take over the place, and now another jail breaker is coming to join him? Could that be the case? )

I can understand very well your reaction. When I see people around that I do not know, I stay inside and check where they go and what they do. There are two old women who live alone in their houses here.
I surely would not open my front door to a stranger, particularly now with this virus problem.

That was why I was extra cautious (re: Covid-19 and the confinement). Why did that guy wander around knocking on strangers' house like that I wonder (and for that, I couldn't opening the door for him, not even to ask him why he kept banging on my front door).

When someone would knock on our door, much more banging our door, I would certainly open and ask what his problem is.

@YrNemo it is intimidating when someone would bang your door. But I have to protect our home so I will face him and be ready with my karate chop and kick. I am a white belter in karate, waheehee.

I copied my mother in law for that . She refused opening doors for us, saying that we did not book for the time, and she was not in the mood. I laughed a bit hearing that, but since then, I have used her approach - sometimes back to her (she got real mad when I let her talk to her son, but I walked away, saying that I had things to do - and that her visits were so sudden! ).

@DianneN Once upon a time, she tortured me badly mentally & with tricks. I let her do so out of respect for her age. Then one day, when she went too far, I rolled up my sleeves and glaring at her, said, 'what do you really want?' - She backed off since .

We had that problem one year, someone in a horrible suit came knocking at our front door (like a gorilla). That person refused to stop knocking. I had some young relatives with me on that day (a few years old), and they cried when they saw that gorilla kept knocking for hours, not just at our front door, but also at windows etc. We called the police but they didn't bother coming.
A week later, I found out that that gorilla was the father of one of my little charges (whom I took care/babysat that day. The father thought that that was funny (to give us a fright that way).

@YrNemo Next time, if they want to talk, ask them through the door how many are there and if they say two, tell them they can talk to each other One more thing...NEVER open the door to strangers

@YrNemo It is better to be cautious when opening the door to strangers.

I was insulted quite a few times now when strangers knocked at our front door, demanded me to open the door completely for them to walk inside - and when I refused, they called me all sort of names, then kicking at the door. I learned since, just to keep silent if the knockers/bangers look weird, aggressive.

Probably not although neither of out doorbells work at present and that, the banging might be the only way someone could let us know they were out there. Maybe that's the only thing her knows to wake people up.
