My tomato seeds have sprouted

The photo is of my tomato seedlings. Aren’t they tiny? I’ve moved them into the laundry for the moment. There are strong winds here and heavy rain from time to time. They’d get annihilated out there as they’re very delicate still. There are about 15 tiny sprouts now but there weren’t that many when the photo was taken. I wonder how many plants I’ll end up with. I don’t really need 15 tomato plants. Maybe I’ll be able to give some to friends.

@JudyEv I have never grown anything in my life so cannot say if the seedlings are small or not. I will take your word for it. That is nice that you want to give to friends.

The seeds were very tiny. It's like a small miracle when eventually you can pick tomatoes from such small beginnings.

@Hannihar No, the plants are those in the photo. It will be several months before we're able to eat them.

@JudyEv It won't be long before you start seeing little green tomatoes appearing! By the way, with you heading into winter right now, that doesn't affect your vegetables?

@moffittjc I probably shouldn't have planted tomatoes and lettuce as they're summer vegetables. It was lovely and warm when I bought them. I think it is about the right time for the others. We don't get any snow although we might get a few frosts but now for a while yet.

@Jessicalynnt I'm supposed to take out some if they're too close together as they'll compete with each other but I find that hard to do.

@thelme55 I guess that's the reason. The instructions said to cover the pot with cling wrap which might have helped keep the soil warmer too.

@JudyEv they sprouted fast because of the warm weather.

You truly love gardening. At home , we have one type but this isn't found in your country.Denis bought me tomato seedlings when I was in Auckland. I planted them following the instructions, but none appeared to show life. It seems I lack the expertise hehehe.

I planted a mini-tomato that was going soft in my refrigerator. Yesterday I saw green sprouts starting in the planter. Nothing like saving money by planting your spoiling food (provided that it has seeds, of course)

I wonder how many pumpkin plants have come up from where someone's just thrown out the kitchen scraps. Good luck with your tomatoes.

@JudyEv I planted a couple of kabocha seeds too, from last years' kabocha, but nothing has come up yet. (Kabocha is a Japanese squash that is like a pumpkin on the inside and green on the outside.)

It's probably not the best time but I figured they wouldn't be in the shops if it was the wrong time of year - but that was probably a bit of an assumption too.

Isn't it a wonderful feeling when they start shooting up. I started all of my peppers and tomatoes from seeds. I have 3 tomato plants outside at my place and gave my son and 2 neighbors one. Each plant has 2 to 3 sprouts in them. I have so many pepper plants that I had to start giving them away. I hope that your tomato plants gives you many tomatoes.

The seeds are so tiny you wouldn't think anything could come of them but up they pop and turn into sturdy plants if they're given half a chance. It's like a small miracle really.

It must make you feel good when you see something that you've planted start sprouting. I am no good at gardening. For the sake of the plants I stay from the dirt. I want them to live.
