I wish I could retire

After being off work for over a month now I really wish I could retire. I am stress free and pain free for the first time in so many years. It is such a wonderful feeling. At first I had a lot of anxiety but now I am enjoying my free time. I know financially I can't afford it right now but for my mental and physical health I feel retirement would be good. I dread the thought of going back to work. Every time the phone rings my heart sinks thinking it will be my boss saying we are going back to work.
After 33 years I am so done with the stress. I never realized that until now. I am enjoying my free time and no stress. I have never been more happy or relaxed.

@yoalldudes , There are a lot of those supposedly "superior" people, which is most of the time in their own minds.

@marlina Thank you for understanding. Some people are easy to give advice and a bit patronizing to be honest when they don't know that I am having physical and mental issues but still trying to work and be productive. Why are some people like that? They consider themselves a better person than you are. It seems like a superiority complex.

I retired last April. You bet I don’t miss the stress. ESPECIALLY not now, with the double stress of “how long am I going to be off, and what’s it going to be like when I go back to work.”
I hope you can find a way to retire, and maybe work part-time to supplement your needs. There are some things money can never buy, and emotional well-being/peace of mind is one of them.

We have to be so grateful not to endure the employment hassle at this time. It sucks being old but this is definitely one positive. That and the National Park service golden pass!

Have you thought of doing some freelance work? Maybe you could work it out where you could stay home and work from home. I know when I was writing I stayed busy and made good money by doing small jobs for clients. I worked the last 10-15 years before I retired in pain. I know the feeling. Good luck with working out a solution!

@Happy2BeMe I was actually building my clients up to do just that, retire. And then I had a stroke. I had to relearn how to type. But I got my retirement anyway.

Have you checked into how much pension and social security (or whatever your equivalent there is) you would get. Maybe if you set a definite date a little sooner than you planned..it would work out well for you..and also give you peace of mind knowing there is an end in site.

you know, we have choices in life. I.had.worked for a company for 1.5 years only. After that, I went self-employed. I may not be rich but am.happy and content because i dont have a boss and no need.to.travel and so on.
Well.if there is a need for you to.retire, you may do so. but you may want to.consider working at home.

I heard a few people saying the same especially if you switched off the constant bad news about the pandemic.
