One of the nice things about living in Northern California is that there are redwood tress all around, even away from the large groves we visit periodically. I have one growing right next to my balcony. I decided to celebrate it yesterday with a photograph. My only regret is that it's not in a place where I could arrange a chair such that I could serenade it on guitar. If you've ever hiked in a redwood grove in the late afternoon, it's a truly calming experience. Everything around you is bathed in a gentle orange light. I could just sit there and watch and listen...and have on many hikes. Do you have a favorite thing to just sit and watch on your property?

Love those big trees. Would love to walk in a grove of those. I have cedar, pine and tulip poplars to look at.

@CarolDM New houses? Oh, those are always a bother. Where my horse used to live? Being overrun by McMansions.

I live in a subdivision, but I do enjoy watching the squirrels come over to me and beg for peanuts.

Can you feed them by hand? I used to do that in Chicago.

That sounds calming. We have a small forest area behind our home. I like sitting and seeing birds there.

How cool that you have a redwood tree. I remember seeing the redwoods when we traveled to northern California. We have birds that we can watch....or just look out at our "yard". We live on an acre and a quarter.

That sounds great! I have five acres in Montana, but I'm only there for a few weeks of the year.

@LindaOHio I'll see if I can find a picture of my cabin. I really enjoy my time up there. Here's the entrance. I fixed this fence and gate. I can't find a picture of the cabin itself right now, but I know I have one

That picture reminds me of the October days when I was in college and my semester exams were finished. I used to watch trees far away from my house's roof sometimes and well relax just watching them. There were no mobiles in my life then. Life was busy but there was something that used to make one feel more positive. So the picture above made me feel nostalgic.

Those trees are famous. How old is that one? Count the rings I only watch crows and the this other dumb bird. All it knows is one song and it drives you nuts. It does like messing with Kai though. Look you can come eat me. Sike! Kai falls for it every time. It is funny.

@TheHorse Really, I did not know that. Learn something knew everyday. I thought birds were true musicians and poets, guess they one hit wonders.

All birds know "only one song," ultimately. They're not really doing "music." It made me sad to read that.

@TheHorse I once lived over a golf course, so most of the time all I saw was a lovely field of green (eastern orgeon, so most places were gross scrubby brown all year)

I can see it from my desk too! I'm peeking at it now. Late afternoon is the time when it gets that lovely burnt orange look.

Therer is a rose that blooms in Spanish Harlem. Or something like that. There's always beauty to be found out there.

@TheHorse Thank you for sharing that with us. I have green around me when I sit on the porch either to get some sun or on a Saturday reading and spending time with my cat.

We don't have such scenic natural beauty around us. But our apartment complex has beautiful landscape and greenery. The balcony where I generally sit with my laptop has a beautiful scene of few palm trees, swimming pool and a well groomed garden with plenty of blooms.

Nope, nothing to serenade here. Why can you not just serenade it from where you are am sure it will hear and appreciate your thoughts.

I have a giant meadow just beyond my back property line. I love to set up my hammock in the trees right adjacent to the meadow, and just lay there relaxing in the hammock and gazing out over the meadow. It's a great way to do absolutely nothing and enjoy every minute of it.
