I Can’t Lift a Pot

It sounds really ridiculous, but I can’t lift certain pots and pans. A finger or two on my right hand lock up when lifting a pot, especially these ultra heavy All Clad professional pots.
I think it’s pretty darn dangerous to lift a pot of boiling water, carry it to the sink to drain whatever is inside it, and then not be able to let go of the handle.
With the long handle I’ve been able to slide my hand off and pry one or two fingers opened.
I have trigger finger. The hand surgeon I’ve been to refuses to perform surgery on me. He suggested I use paper tape to wrap my fingers before bed to prevent making a fist in my sleep whenever my fingers start locking up. It works, so back to it I will go.
In the meantime, hubs has been the pot and pan carrier when I do the cooking.

@DianneN No need to be sorry. It's all part of the body breaking down! :-) Sorry you have a trigger finger.

Oh dear. You're right. That does sound dangerous. Well, good thing hubs is nearby ... I hope that the condition isn't too uncomfortable.

I am sure he doesn't mind. You make fists in your sleep? Hmm, don't think I have heard of that before. Hopefully the tape will do the trick.

I remember decades ago when I was about to buy a set of awesome Rena Ware. Just when my husband had given in, I held one of the pots with my hand and decided that they weighed too much.

@DianneN I decided not to buy them. I would not have used them if they weighted so much. It is like a set of beautiful set of Japanese dinnerware I have that I have never used. It is so delicate that I wouldn´t dare place it in the dishwasher. And it is for 12 people, so it would be for special occasions

@marguicha I use my fine china for guests, but not for the grandkids.
My husband and I wash them by hand. We have it down to a science after all these years.

Oh goodness, that is not fun, I have to be careful with my arthritis but Al is even more of a danger so I am on my own.

That sucks that you can’t get any surgical relief...but then, it might make things worse. That’s one of those middle age arthritis things. My mom’s fingers would lock on her. Mine do, too, occasionally, but not to the point where I drop heavy objects.
I hope you can find something to help.

Lock up ? That is scary when handling a heavy pot of boiling water. Thank goodness your husband is there to help you out! I wonder if there are certain exercises you can do on your hand for that? My fingers don't lock up like that, but I do make fists and sleep on top of it (stress thing for me, I think).
