Some are working others are not.

As part of the UK lockdown many people were not allowed to go to work and it was only certain workplaces that were allowed to stay open. This week they started to allow more workplaces to open. I have heard people say that they did not want to go to work because they still felt unsafe. Also it seems that people who have worked all the way through the lockdown are getting upset because half of the workforce are at home enjoying the nice weather and still getting paid , while they have had to work. I have also heard that the people who want to work but are not allowed to are getting bored and worried about their financial situation because of having to take a cut in wages. Many are worried that they will not have a job to go back to.

It is a complicated issue. My wife (Principal Education Officer) is currently working (from home) on how the schools in Leicester should respond to calls to re-open. There is considerable opposition from the teaching unions, who wield a great deal of political power locally.

@lazydaizee It will not be easy. It will in any case have to be done piecemeal if the rule about class sizes no greater than 15 is followed. That will mean that children will not be able to attend school every day but only on alternate days - which is what they are doing in France. One feature that applies in Leicester (and Leicestershire) that is a bit different to the rest of the country is our term dates. Schools break up on 10th July, which means that getting children back to school will only be for six weeks maximum and not seven or eight.

They are saying that only children of certain ages are allowed to go back to school. This will cause problems in homes where some of the children have to go back while others are still at home. I know they will try to stagger the schools re-opening but it does not seem fair on the children or their parents especially if the parents are supposed to be going back to work.

Even here, we dont know what our working arrangement will be in the long run. It is giving me confusion and worry. But I will just ride the tide.

There is nothing anyone can do about this situation, like you say, we must `ride the tide'

@lazydaizee I don't know what to say. Situation in China is getting better now but still not good. We just have to believe that all is under control of the government.

Around here, it's no work-no pay! That's why people are getting restless.
