The streets are almost empty due to the virus

While driving to places we had to go, we noticed many areas of the city are empty. Closed stores. Hardly any other cars. Parking spaces empty. Wow! It is almost spooky to realize how many people are staying home unless they have to go to work. A few businesses might open next week, but for now the area where we are will probably remain quiet. Are the streets empty where you live?

We see more traffic now, but as the number of cases continue to climb, we have to wonder if staying home isn't the choice we should make when possible @GardenGerty We never expected it to be as serious as it is now.

They're already starting to go back to work here and although there aren't as many people as usual out and about there does seem to be too many in my opinion. I had to do some recycling again this week so I was out this morning and was surprised at how many cars were on the road. Weekdays are usually much calmer when everyone is working.

As people here begin to go back to work, most are in masks while working and some are behind plexiglass shields. Those who must handle money are usually wearing gloves for extra protection. Hope it all works out soon @rebelann

The first few times we had to go through town to get to our destination we were shocked by the empty streets. Now, we hope for empty streets @marlina

Nope, we have completely re-opened everything. Other than people wearing masks out in public, you could never tell there was a pandemic at all.

However, the schools are not opening at this time, or are they? Here most things remain closed and no one is certain what the colleges are doing, etc. We do realize some local businesses will ever open again.

@PatZAnthony Because it's summer vacation, the schools are not currently open. However, Florida has stated that all kids must go back to school in the classroom at the end of August when school starts. People are up in arms about that, and many groups (teachers, parents, unions, etc) are fighting the decision.

Very empty here, because we know the virus is still alive and well.

We have a large number of new cases in NC yesterday, but there are always those who feel they will not become ill and out without good reason. We were asked to stay home when we can and wear a mask at all times. This seems reasonable to us.

Worry is not something we do, but we are aware of how to protect ourselves somewhat. The masks and hand washing is some help, but I also go by what my grandmother insisted always worked: Gargle with salt water even if you don't have a sore throat; Use a clean pillow case daily; Stay hydrated!

It was almost empty here during our quarantine period. Now that it has been lifted with some restrictions as well, the road is now back to congestion.

Maybe we should have done more in the US because the numbers continue to go up. We do know some places opened, such as bars and restaurants, for a short time and the numbers increased. For me @jobelbojel think staying away from crowds for now is a good idea.

Here, it is the opposite because the lockdown was eased last week. The roads are full of vehicles and trucks although the buses are very few.

Apparently the numbers here are continuing to increase @Alexandoy so we are not sure when things will be eased again. There was one attempt that I am aware of in NC, but the the virus numbers spiked, so we are only doing what we must.

@PatZAnthony Taiwan has no more new cases for a time so maybe the government should look there on how they did it.

We are just about back to normal with very few new cases over the last weeks. The only new cases are people who have come from overseas. They go straight into quarantine in a hotel so hopefully they have no chance to spread it.

Having people follow the rules of quarantine is most helpful it seems. We've had several friends who later tested negative quarantine themselves because friends had the virus @JudyEv

Yeah no...Arizona is terrible and people were still going out even when we had stay at home orders. And now all our hospitals are almost as max capacity. I would rather see empty streets.

@Hannihar It seems we were doing things as quickly in the USA as we could have. Some areas of the country seemed to feel we were worrying too much. Now most feel we should be cautious and be prepared for things to get worse.

@PatZAnthony I understand what you are saying. I read a headline where our Prime Minister here in Israel said that we opened up things too early. That could very well be. The leaders or whoever is in charge are watching things closely here and there are lockdowns again because there are more getting the virus and not enough walking around and wearing masks or social distancing.

They are beginning to relax the lockdown here, but it has been very quiet on our roads since March. The town is still very empty when I go shopping in the morning.

Even before all this happened the streets around where I live were always empty pretty much and many houses up for sale. So there is not much difference now.

That is a surprise. Whenever we have been in that area it was bumper to bumper with people everywhere. Years ago we lived in the area and it was always crowded.

In my city, it is like people are no longer afraid of the virus. Places are still crowded and there is heavy traffic in rush hours as usual
